Introduction. ¡HE present volume is intended as a companion or supplement to the deservedly popular work of the Rev. John Keble—the CHRISTIAN YEAR. There is reason to believe that such a supplement has long been extensively desired. There are numerous families, in all parts of the United kingdom, in which the CHRISTIAN YEAR is almost as familiar a friend as the Prayer-Book itself, and yet in which a wish is often heard, for a larger variety than a single volume can supply. This wish cannot be adequately met by any individual writer. Most men, and especially those best qualified, would shrink from placing themselves in apparent competition with the author |
