EFFECT [of this negative atonement] destruction. Let their men be put to death, let their young men be slain. MEANS. God's denying his mercy, and executing his justice. EFFECT. Ye shall not be safe, as ye presume, ver. 5, but my judgments shall overtake you. MEANS. God's atoning, blotting out, smearing over, cancelling their covenant with death, i. e. he would bring death upon them, notwithstanding their secu F 98. (28) Job xxxiii. 24. When God visits man with bodily diseases, so that (ver. 22,) his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
