V, 20. saying unto him, Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead. And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth. Genesis xxiii, 3-7. (A.v.)

The Ideal of the Psalmist.

20.

Lord, who shall sojourn in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh truth in his heart. He that slandereth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his friend, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. In whose eyes a reprobate is despised; but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

Psalm xv. (R.v.)

DISCORD AND PEACE.

SECTION VI.

DISCORD AND PEACE.

SUMMARY.

1-5 In all work for reform there must be sharp divergence of opinion, but this need not end in discord. 6-17.-Both at his birth and at his death Jesus Christ reconciled men, and all his life taught them his lessons of peace. 18-32-His followers enforce the same teaching, and give exhortations against strife and anger. 33-40-Men should keep binding agreements; should unite and co-operate in their work and encourage one another with support and sympathy. 41-43-God calls us to peace; 44-48-and reveals to us the ideal of human society.

Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree. .. Ah Lord God! they say of me, Is he not a speaker of parables?
