* This is an abstract of a Harmony of the New Testament, just published in England, and highly esteemed for CHRONOLOGICAL accuracy. I have used S. for sections, and N. with figures, for the Notes, in Townsend's full work. His Notes on the New Testament are much more full than those on the Old Testament. They are able and critical, and sound on most of the fundamental doctrines of Christianity, but evince strong attachment to Episcopacy and some aversion to Calvinism. He places the birth of our Saviour rather more than five years earlier than the common reckoning, which is designated by V. E. (Vulgar Era.] Excep: at the beginning of a page, when a date is once inserted, succeeding sections have a dash (-) instead of it, till the date is changed. The number of the Notes begin anew in each Chapter. Editor.
