PREFACE TO THE THIRD EDITION. IN sending forth this new Edition of The Scriptures Arranged, the Author desires to remind all his readers of the object he had in view in preparing it at first for publication. Having been for many years engaged in preparing Students in Divinity for Holy Orders, he found their knowledge of the Old Testament generally so inaccurate that little could be built upon it with safety. The first Edition of this Work was then published, in order that Students of Scripture might see at a glance the circumstances under which every prophecy or psalm was written. The second Edition was published in a more popular form, as the Public generally began to find it useful; and the third Edition carefully revised, and to some extent re-written, is undertaken with the hope that it may be found a helpful guide, not only in educational establishments, but in Sunday School work also. |
