Holy Communion.

410F that glorious Body broken,

Of that Blood all price exceeding,
Shed by Him who came to bring
To a fallen world Redemption,
Christ our Saviour and our King.
2 On the night of that Last Supper,
Seated with His chosen band,
He the Paschal victim eating,
First fulfills the law's command,
Then as Food, to His disciples,

Gives Himself with His Own Hand.
3 By His Word, the Word Incarnate,
Maketh bread His Flesh to be;
Wine the Blood of Christ becometh,
Though no outward change we see,
But in every guileless spirit,
Faith accepts the Mystery.
4 This great Sacrament ordained,
Let us all revering hail;
Ancient rites are past for ever,
Newer means of Grace prevail;
Willing faith the lack supplieth,
Where our earthly senses fail.

5 To the Everlasting Father,
To the Everlasting Son,
To the Co-eternal Spirit,
Undivided Three in One,
Honor, praise, salvation, blessing,
Now and evermore be done.

42 M and doth thy cup with love o'er

flow?

Thither be all thy children led,

And let them all thy sweetness know. 2 Hail, sacred feast, which JESUS makes, Rich banquet of his flesh and blood! Thrice happy he who here partakes That sacred stream, that heav'nly food. 3 Oh! let thy table honour'd be,

And furnish'd well with joyful guests!
And may each soul salvation see,
That here its sacred pledges tastes.

43L

ORD, when before thy throne we meet
Thy goodness to adore,

From heaven, th' eternal mercy-seat,
On us thy blessing pour;

And make our inmost souls to be
An habitation meet for Thee.

2 The body for our ransom given,
The blood in mercy shed!
With this immortal food from heaven,
Lord, let our souls be fed;
And as we round thy table kneel,
Help us thy quick'ning grace to feel.
3 Be thou, O Holy Spirit, nigh!
Accept the humble prayer,
The contrite soul's repentant sigh,
The sinner's heartfelt tear;
And let our adoration rise

As fragrant incense to the skies.

44 Thus thy saints recall to mind,
LAMB of God, whose dying love

Hear us, bless us from above;
Let us all thy mercy find.
2 Let thy blood, to us applied,
Every sinner's pardon seal;
All in Thee be justified,

Every soul thy comfort feel. 3 By thine agony of pain,

By thy precious blood, we pray,
Cleanse our hearts from every stain;
Take our load of guilt away.

4 Burst our bonds and set us free;
Bid our fear and sorrow cease;
O remember Calvary!

Saviour! bid us go in peace.

450

GOD, unseen yet ever near,
Thy presence may we feel;
And thus inspired with holy fear
Before thine altar kneel!

2 Here may thy faithful people know
The blessings of thy love;

The streams that through the desert flow,
The manna from above!

3 We come, obedient to thy word,
To feast on heavenly food;
Our meat the body of the Lord,
Our drink his precious blood.

4 Thus may we all thy words obey,
For we, O God, are thine;
And go rejoicing on our way,
Renew'd with strength divine.

FT in sorrow, oft in woe.

46 OFT

Onward, Christians, onward go;
Fight the fight, maintain the strife,
Strengthened with the Bread of Life.
2 Onward, Christians, onward go,
Join the war, and face the foe;
Will ye flee in danger's hour?
Know ye not your Captain's power?
3 Let not sorrow dim your eye,
Soon shall every tear be dry;
Let not fears your course impede;
Great your strength, if great your need
4 Let your drooping hearts be glad;
March, in heavenly armour clad;
Fight, nor think the battle long,
Soon shall victory tune your song.
5 Onward, then, in battle move,
More than conquerors ye shall prove;
Though opposed by many a foe,
Christian soldiers, onward go.

6 Hymns of glory and of praise,
Father, unto Thee we raise;
Praise to Thee, O Christ, our King,
And the Holy Ghost, we sing.

470 Thy presence now reveal CHRIST, unseen, yet truly near,

To those who may, with love and fear,
Before thy table kneel.

2 We come, obedient to thy word,
To feast on heavenly food;
Our meat, the Body of the Lord,
Our drink, his precious Blood.

Trinity.

33 HOLY, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty!

Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;

Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty! God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity! 2 Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore Thee, Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,

Which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be!

3 Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide Thee,

Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory
may not see,

Only Thou art holy, there is none beside
Thee,

Perfect in power, in love, and purity! 4 Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty! All Thy works shall praise thy name, in earth, and sky, and sea,

Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty !
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!

340ion of life, world in mercy

Doth o'er the world in mercy shine, Accept our praise, for we are thine.
