PLAIN PAROCHIAL SERMONS. BY THE REV. DANIEL PARSONS, M. A. ORIEL COLLEGE, OXFORD, CURATE OF S. JAMES'S, LONGTON, STAFFORDSHIRE. LONDON: PRINTED FOR J. G. & F. RIVINGTON, ST. PAUL'S CHURCH YARD, AND WATERLOO PLACE, PALL MALL. 1838. TO THE REVEREND JOHN PARSONS, M.A. VICAR OF MARDEN, WILTS, LATE FELLOW OF ORIEL COLLEGE, THIS VOLUME IS DEDICATED IN TOKEN OF FILIAL GRATITUDE. PREFACE1. THE following plain Sermons, preached in the performance of very humble parish duty, are published in the hope that they may be read by persons who have not time, nor opportunity, to follow the doctrines of the Church, through long and learned works. It has been the endeavour of the author to persuade Christians not to seek the consolations of the Gospel here, and the rewards which it holds out to Christians hereafter, out of the Church which our Master was pleased to found; 1 The author has to apologise for many inaccuracies and inconsistencies in the printing of the following sheets, for which he is alone responsible, which passed uncorrected, in the haste of revising the proofs at a great distance from London. |
