In gratitude above;

While sinners, now confessing,
The Gospel call obey,

And seek the Savior's blessing,
A nation in a day.

3 Blest river of salvation,
Pursue thy onward way;
Flow thou to every nation,

Nor in thy richness stay:
Stay not till all the lowly
Triumphant reach their home;
Stay not till all the holy

Proclaim, "The Lord is come!"

S. F. Smith.

HOW beauteous are their feet,

Who stand on Zion's hill!

Who bring salvation on their tongues,
And words of peace reveal

2 How charming is their voice!
How sweet the tidings are!
"Zion, behold thy Savior King,
He reigns and triumphs here."

3 How happy are our ears,

That hear this joyful sound,
Which kings and prophets waited for,
And sought, but never found!

4 How blesséd are our eyes,
That see this heavenly Light!
Prophets and kings desired it long,
But died without the sight.

5 The watchmen join their voice,
And tuneful notes employ;
Jerusalem breaks forth in songs,
And deserts learn the joy.

6 The Lord makes bare His arm
Through all the earth abroad;
Let all the nations now behold
Their Savior and their God.

I. Watts.

E NOT dismayed, thou little flock,
Although the foe's fierce battle shock,
Loud on all sides, assail thee.

Though o'er thy fall they laugh secure,
Their triumph cannot long endure;
Let not thy courage fail thee.

2 Thy cause is God's-go at His call,
And to His hands commit thine all;
Fear thou no ill impending:

His Gid'on shall arise for thee,
God's word and people manfully,
In God's own time, defending.

3 Amen, Lord Jesus, hear our cry;
Stir up Thy power, come from on high,
Defend Thy congregation;

So shall Thy church, through endless days,
Give thanks to Thee and chant Thy praise
In joy and adoration.

THOU whose almighty word
Chaos and darkness heard,
And took their flight,
Hear us, we humbly pray,
And where the gospel's day
Sheds not its glorious ray,
"Let there be light!"

2 Thou! who didst come to bring
On Thy redeeming wing,
Healing and sight,

Health to the sick in mind,
Sight to the inly blind,
Oh, now to all mankind,
Let there be light!

3 Spirit of truth and love,
Life-giving Holy Dove!
Speed forth Thy flight:
Move o'er the water's face,
Bearing the lamp of grace,
And in earth's darkest place,
"Let there be light!"

[blocks in formation]

Boundless as ocean's tide
Rolling in fullest pride,

Through the world far and wide,—

"Let there be light!"

J. Marriott.

CHRIST, our true and only light, Illumine those who sit in night; Let those afar now hear Thy voice, And in Thy fold with us rejoice.

2 Fill with the radiance of Thy grace
The souls now lost in error's maze,
And all whom in their secret minds
Some dark delusion haunts and blinds.

3 And all who else have strayed from Thee,
O gently seek! Thy healing be
To ev'ry wounded conscience giv'n,
And let them also share Thy heaven.

4 O make the deaf to hear Thy word,
And teach the dumb to speak, dear Lord,
Who dare not yet the faith avow,
Though secretly they hold it now.
