A. We are made partakers of the redemption purchased by Christ, by the effectual application of it to us p, by his holy Spirit q.

Q. 30. How doth the Spirit apply to us the redemption purchafed by Chrift?

A. The Spirit applieth to us the redemption purchased by Chrift, by working faith in usr, and thereby uniting us to Christ, in our effectual calling:

Q31. What is effectual calling? in hell, neither wilt thou fuffer thine holy One to fee corruption. v. 31. He feeing this before, fpake of the refurrection of Chrift, that his foul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did fee corruption.

That Chrift may dwell

A. Effectual calling is the work of God's Spirit t, whereby, convincing us of our fin and mifery v, inlightning our minds in the knowledge of Chrift w, and renewing our wills x, he doth perfuade and enable us to embrace Jefus Christ, freely offered to us in the gospel y.

Q 32 What benefits do they that are effectually called partake of in this life?

A. They that are effectually called do in this life partake of juftificationz, adoptiona, fanctification, and the feveral benefits which in this life do either accompany or flow from them b. Q. 33. What is juftification?

A. Juftification is an act of God's free grace, wherein he

Q. 34. What is adoption?

A. Adoption is an act of God's free grace g, whereby we are received into the number, and have a right to all the privileges, of the fons of God h. Q35. What is fanctification?

Q. 40. What did God at firft reveal to man for the rule of his obedience?

Lord: v. 8. We are confident, I fay, and willing rather to be abfent from the body, and to be prefent with the Lord. Phil. i. 23. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a defire to depart, and to be with Chrift; which is far better. Luke xxiii. 43. And Jefus faid unto him, Verily I fay unto thee, To-day fhalt thou be with me in paradise.
