(1) The Word Anathema, properly fignifies a Thing dedicated and confe crated to God, which was feparated with a Curfe on thofe who fhould take and apply it to their own Ufe. Hence, in a figurative Sense, it comes to fignifie accurfed, or devoted to deftruction. Maranatha is a Syriac Phraf, which properly fignifies, the Lord comes, to wit, to execute Vengeance. The
