(1) It is very uncertain what Epistle St. Paul here means. Dr. Mills nd Dr. Whitby think it to be the Epistle to the Ephesians; but Dr. Light: bot is of Opinion that it was an Epistle which the Laodiceans sent to the poftle

. And though it was not of equal Authority with St. Paul's own pistles, yet it was a good Copy and Example for the Colossians to fol. W. Those who are not fatisfied with this, rather than suppose that ny of the Epistles of the Apostles are lost, he would have them underrand it of the first Epistle of St. John, written by that Apostle from Lao. icea ; for he says, St. Paul never was at that place. “See his Works, Po! I. pag. 326, 339. But if we should suppose this Epistle to be ritten by one of the Apostles, and that it is now loft, I do not fee ow the Canon of the holy Scriptures is affected thereby, since there are as any of the Epistles of the Apostles preserved by Divine Providence, and "ansmitted down to us, as are abundantly sufficient to answer all the urposes for which they were written.
