8 Let Him alone-and tarry, Shall as Himself good deemeth, 9 He may, awhile still staying, And put thee out of mind, 10 But if thou never shrinkest, He'll come when least thou thinkest, That burdeneth thy heart, For any evil part. 11 Hail! child of faith, who gainest The victory alway. Who honor's crown obtainest, That never fades away. God in thy hand will give thee, To Him thou'llt sing thy psalm. 12 O Lord, no longer lengthen Our hands and feet to strengthen By Thee be watched and cared for, So come we where prepared for Beloved, "It is well!" God's ways are always right; And perfect love is o'er them all, Though far above our sight. 2 Beloved "It is well!" Though deep and sore the smart, The hand that wounds knows how to bind And heal the broken heart. 3 Beloved "It is well!" Though sorrow clouds our way, "Twill only make the joy more dear That ushers in the day. 4 Beloved, "It is well!" The path that Jesus trod, Though rough and straight and dark it be, Leads home to heaven and God. The Christian Life Am I a soldier of the cross, 2 Must I be carried to the skies While others fought to win the prize, 3 Are there no foes for me to face? Is this vile world a friend to grace, 4 Sure I must fight, if I would reign: 5 Thy saints, in all this glorious war, 6 When that illustrious day shall rise And all Thine armies shine In robes of victory through the skies, The glory shall be Thine. Death and Eternity Abide with me! fast falls the eventide; 2 Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; O Thou who changest not, abide with me! 3 Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word, But as Thou dwell'st with Thy disciples Lord: Familiar, condescending, patient, free, Come, not to sojourn, but abide with me. 4 Come not in terrors as the King of kings, But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings; Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea; O Friend of sinners, thus abide with me! 5 Thou on my head in early youth didst smile. And, though rebellious and perverse meanwhile, Thou hast not left me, oft as I left Thee: On to the close, O Lord, abide with me! 6 I need Thy presence every passing hour: What but Thy grace can foil the Tempter's power? Who like Thyself my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me! 7 I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless: Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death's sting? where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me! 8 Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes, Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies: Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me! I Fall asleep in Jesus' wounds, 2 With peace and joy I now depart, "Forever with the Lord!" Amen! so let it be; Life from the dead is in that word, 'Tis immortality. |
