THE Adventurers; OR, SCENES IN IRELAND, IN THE REIGN OF ELIZABETH. Men whom destiny That hath to instrument this lower world SHAKSPEARE's Tempest. IN THREE VOLUMES. VOL. I. LONDON: PRINTED FOR LONGMAN, HURST, REES, ORME, BROWN, and green, PATERNOSTER-ROW. 1825. BOD THE following attempt to illustrate one of the most eventful periods of Irish history, by a delineation of "Scenes in Ireland in the Reign of Elizabeth," was made several years ago. Some of these "Scenes" have been sketched with great fidelity from records of real transactions. It was hoped that it might be useful to make the public acquainted, in this popular form, with the character of those events which still continue to affect, in their consequences, and in no small degree, the present condition of Ireland. The reasons why they were laid aside for so long a period, and why they are now presented to the public, are immaterial to state. |
