shed for us, yet we have not purified ourselves. Thy Holy Spirit hath not been withheld from us, yet we have perverted and come short of Thy grace. Have mercy upon us, most merciful FATHER; for the sake of Thy SON JESUS CHRIST, remit unto us the judgments which we, by our offences have most righteously deserved, and grant that returning unto Thee, we may be cleansed from all unrighteousness, and henceforth truly and faithfully serve Thee, according to the grace of our GOD, and the LORD JESUS CHRIST. And now, heavenly FATHER, grant unto us Thy peace, and sanctify unto us the reading of Thy holy Word, for His Name's sake.

B. Amen.

[Here should follow the reading of God's holy Word.]

Prayer.

O LORD GOD, Who gatherest unto Thyself them that make a covenant with Thee by sacrifice; and Who hast of Thy great goodness brought us at this time into Thy presence, as a family and household of Thy people, heirs of the grace of life, and of the glory which remaineth to be revealed; give us fully to apprehend that for which we are apprehended of CHRIST JESUS. May we ever draw near unto Thee as our GoD and FATHER in Him; as those whom

Thou hast redeemed by His blood, made one with Him, very members of His body, and partakers of the HOLY GHOST, the blessed Comforter, Whom Thou hast given to abide with us, and to dwell in us for ever.

Let the grace and blessing which Thou sheddest down upon Thy Church, day by day, be in us; fill us with the joy of Thy salvation, the comfort of Thy peace, and the power of Thy Spirit; that we may live in unity and godly love, and in the one Hope of our calling; that we may love the appearing of Thy Son, and purify ourselves even as He is pure, walking in all Thy commandments and ordinances blameless.

Hear us, heavenly FATHER, for all our relations, our friends, and acquaintances; for all Thy people dwelling within this parish and neighbourhood; and for Thy holy Church universal. Send forth those whom Thou wilt send, to gather in Thine elect from the four winds under heaven. Set the solitary in families; and may Thine anointing flow down upon all Thy children, that they may embrace Thy holy doctrine; may Thy love be shed abroad in their hearts, that they may be edified in the faith; may Thy manifold grace be ministered unto them through all the ordinances of Thine house, that they may be perfect,

and entire, wanting nothing. And may we all, evermore be confirmed with the seal of the life-giving Spirit, that being sanctified in our whole being, spirit, soul, and body, we may be preserved blameless until the coming of our LORD JESUS CHrist, and have part in that glorious change, which shall pass upon all who look for Him, and love His appearing.

In full assurance of Thy favour and goodness towards us, we commit ourselves and every member of this family unto Thee for Thy protection and blessing this night. Let Thy presence be with us; preserve us from all evil ghostly and bodily; give us to rest in perfect peace and safety; and may we awake in the morning with renewed health and strength, and with grace to show forth Thy praise, by living unto Thee and for Thee.

These, and all other mercies, whether for our bodies or souls, for time or eternity, we humbly ask in the all-prevailing name and mediation of Thy beloved SON JESUS CHRIST, to Whom with Thee and the HOLY GHOST, the one GOD of our Salvation, we ascribe all honour and glory, might, majesty, and dominion, for ever and ever.

B. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer.

OUR FATHER, which art in heaven, Hallowed be

Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil : for Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

[blocks in formation]

The blessing of GOD Almighty, the FATHER, the SON, and the HOLY GHOST, rest upon you, and on this whole family and household, this night and for

evermore.

R. Amen.

FRIDAY MORNING.

Exhortation.

LET us praise the name of GOD with a Psalm, and magnify Him with thanksgiving.

[Here a Psalm should be said or chanted.]

Prayer.

O LORD our GOD, Who keepest covenant for ever, and forsakest not Thy people that put their trust in Thee; renewing unto them Thy loving kindness, and tender mercies, day by day, and night by night continually through Thy most mighty protection we have been preserved from all evil, and kept in peace during the perilous hours of another night Thou hast of Thy great goodness watched over us, refreshed us with rest and sleep, and raised us up again, and brought us into Thy Presence, giving us to enjoy the light of Thy countenance, and to participate in all Thy manifold gifts, which Thou bestowest upon Thy people. Wherefore, we
