ness towards us; and for Thy Holy Word, which maketh wise unto salvation. Heavenly FATHER, give us evermore to walk in the light thereof, that we may be manifestly not of the night nor of darkness, but children of the light, and of the day. May we ever realize Thy Presence, and abide in Thy love, fearing no evil, knowing that we dwell under Thy defence, and are embraced in the arms of Thy protection.

And now that we are before Thee on this Eve of Thy Holy Sabbath, prepare us in heart and mind for the due celebration thereof. Remove from us every hindrance to Thy grace and blessing; put away from us all unbelief and hardness of heart; and so fill us with Thy Spirit, that we may apprehend that for which we are apprehended of Christ Jesus our LORD; and pressing forward unto the prize of our high calling, may increase daily, with all Thy saints, in a meetness for Thy kingdom, waiting for Thy Son from Heaven, when Thy Church shall be seen in her entireness, and shall enter into the joy of the LORD. May every returning morning, and especially the morning of Thy Holy Sabbath, be unto us an earnest of that day, even of that eternal rest which remaineth unto Thy people.

O most gracious LORD GOD, of Whom the whole

family in heaven and earth is named, regard with Thy compassion this whole household, and each member of this family, whether absent or present, [especially .], that being one in CHRIST JESUS, having the same mind, and the same Spirit, we may not fail to partake of the glory, which shall be revealed in the day of His appearing, and to enter into His kingdom. Be Thou mercifully present with us this night; grant unto us refreshing sleep, and bring us before Thee in the morning with praise and thanksgiving.

Look in Thy mercy upon all dwelling within this parish and neighbourhood, and prepare Thy people for the due celebration of Thy Holy Sabbath, that they, keeping it as the LORD's day, may cease from their own works and rest in Thee. May they enter into Thy Courts with praise, and magnify Thy name with thanksgiving; may they seek Thy grace and blessing in Thine ordinances, and draw water with joy out of the wells of salvation.

We pray Thee, Heavenly FATHER, for all on whom Thy Holy Name is called, even all Thy baptized people, that they may receive the dew of Thy blessing and the outpouring of Thy Holy Spirit. Have regard to Thine Holy Habitation which lieth desolate; bring in the fulness of the Gentiles; ac

complish the number of Thine Elect; restore to fulness of grace and blessing Thine ordinances for the building up of Thy Church; and unite and carry onward to perfection all Thy saints, that Thy kingdom may come, and Thy glory be revealed in the sight of all nations.

These our prayers and supplications, we make, in full assurance of being heard of Thee; for Thou art a merciful God, full of compassion, long-suffering, and of great pity. Thou sparest when we deserve punishment, and in wrath thinkest upon mercy. Spare Thy people, good LORD, spare us, and let us not come short of Thy glory. Hear us, O Lord, for Thy mercy is great, and according to Thy lovingkindness look upon us, through the merits and mediation of Thy beloved Son our SAVIOUR JEsus CHRIST.

PRAYERS

FOR

HOLY DAYS AND SEASONS.

[These Prayers should be used at family worship, on the Holy Days and Seasons for which they are intended.]

The Season of Advent.

O LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, Who hast given us to rejoice in Thy salvation, which by JESUS CHRIST hath appeared unto all men; and to look for that blessed Hope of His second glorious appearing; we beseech Thee, grant us grace, that having this hope in us, we may purify ourselves even as He is pure, and wait with vigilance for the Advent of Thy SON, our LORD; that when He shall arise from Thy right hand, to visit the earth in righteousness, and Thy people with salvation, He may find us not sleeping
