the oaths of office, were severally admitted by the Vice-Chancellor.

APRIL 19.

The Divinity Exercises in the Divinity School have just terminated in the rejection of the Rev. Mr. Mac Mullen's exercise by Dr. Hampden, Regius Professor, in consequence of the candidate re-asserting the doctrines on the Eucharist condemned by the Vice Chancellor and the six Doctors last year, in the case of Dr. Pusey's sermon. This event has produced a great sensation in the University.

The subjects for the exercises in the Divinity schools for the degreee of B.D. were-1, The Church of England does not teach, nor can it be proved from Scripture, that any change takes place in the elements at consecration in the Lord's Supper. 2, It is a mode of expression calculated to give erroneous views of Divine revelation, to speak of "Scripture and Catholic tradition" as joint authorities in the matter of Christian doctrine.

There is no doubt that the long pending question as to the Mastership of Pembroke College, has been decided in favour of Dr. Jeune, the Dean of Jersey.

The Regius Professor of Divinity will commence a Course of Lectures on St. Paul's Epistle to the Romans, on Thursday, May the 2d, at 12 o'clock. This course is intended for such members of the university as, having passed the examination for the degree of B.A., intend to offer themselves at the theological examination; and those who desire to attend it, are requested to call on the professor on Wednesday, May 1, between the hours of 12 and 3 o'clock.

The need of it is indubitable: the means by which we may be enabled to supply that want are at present uncertain. We cannot be wrong, though, in removing such doubts and difficulties as the ingenuous may submit to our solution. One of our correspondents remarks, that "Language is scarcely precise enough to express, without circumlocution, the difference which exists between Eternal and Everlasting. The latter," he says, "is in one passage of our Bible used as equivalent to the other; but the other is consequently used by us to express the less extended meaning of the latter. Are not angels," he asks, "limited by time, as to the past? Is not the eternity of bliss we hope for, limited by time-at the same extreme, the beginning? Now, is the word used in its proper or in a tropical sense here? If in its proper sense, we want a word to express the eternity of God."
