It is good to fing praises unto our God; for it is

THE
HE following collection of Anthems, &c.

&. from the works of the most esteemed Composers, is as complete as the time for making the compilation would conveniently allow. The number might have been increased by defering the publication ; but as an appendix may, if required, be added hereafter, the Editor thought proper, in compliance with the wishes of the Congregation, to bring forward the work without delay. Several pieces sung at the Church it has not been thought necessary to insert in this collection, as the Composers had taken them without alteration or transposition from the Scriptures or the Liturgy, and they may be readily found by turning to the bible or the prayer book.

Collection of Anthems, &c.

ADVENT.
CARK the glad found; the Saviour comes,

The Saviour promis'd long:
Let every heart prepare a throne,

And every voice a song.
He comes the pris'ners to release

In Satan's bondage held;
The gates of brass before him burst,

The iron fetters yield.
He comes from thickest films of vice

To clear the mental day;
And on the eye-balls of the blind

To pour celestial day.
He comes the broken heart to bind,

The bleeding soul to cure;
And with the pleasures of his grace

T: enrich the humble poor.
Our glad Hosannas, Prince of Peace!

Thy welcome thall proclaim,
And heaven's eternal arches ring
With thy beloved naine.
