XVIII.

A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one

another.

By this the children of God are manifest:
Whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God,

Neither he that loveth not his brother.

He that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen,
How shall he love God whom he hath not seen?
Let love be without dissimulation;

Be kindly affectioned one to another;

Abhor that which is evil;

Cleave to that which is good;

Recompense to no man evil for evil;

Provide things honest in the sight of all men;

If it be possible live peaceably with all men.

Be not overcome of evil but overcome evil with good. Above all have fervent charity among yourselves;

Let none imagine evil in his heart against his neighbor. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels and have not charity,

I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal.

And though I have the gift of prophecy,

And understand all mysteries and all knowledge,

And though I have all faith so that I could remove mountains,

And have not charity, I am nothing.

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and

though I give my body to be burned,

And have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Charity suffereth long and is kind;

Charity envieth not;

Charity vaunteth not itself;

Doth not behave itself unseemly;

Seeketh not her own, thinketh no evil;

Rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in truth.
Charity never faileth, but beareth all things,

Believeth all things,

Hopeth all things,

Endureth all things.

Now abideth faith, hope and charity;

But the greatest of these is charity.

All. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation. Deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.

XIX.

M. Happy is the man that findeth wisdom,

C.

And the man that getteth understanding;

For the profit of it is more than the profit of silver,

And the gain thereof than fine gold.

She is more precious than rubies,

And all thou canst desire is not to be compared with her. Length of days is in her right hand,

And in her left hand riches and honor.

She is a tree of life to them that lay hold on her,
And happy is every one that retaineth her.

Her ways are ways of pleasantness,

And all her paths are peace.

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom,
And with all thy getting get understanding.
Forsake her not and she shall preserve thee;

Love her and she shall keep thee;

Exalt her and she shalt promote thee;

She shall bring thee honor when thou dost embrace her;

She shall give thine head an ornament of grace,
A crown of glory shall she deliver unto thee.

Take fast hold of instruction, let her not go,

Keep her, for she is thy life.

Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely,

And when thou runnest thy foot shall not stumble.

M. When thou liest down thou shalt not be afraid,

Yea, thou shalt lie down and thy sleep shall be sweet. Where shall wisdom be found?

Where is the place of understanding?

The depth saith "It is not in me,”

And the sea saith "It is not in me."

It cannot be purchased with gold,

Neither can silver be weighed for the price thereof.

God understandeth the way to it,

He knoweth the dwelling place thereof.
When He gave the winds their weight,

And meted out the waters by measure,

When He made a law for the rain,

And a path for the thunderbolt,

Then did He see it and declare it.

And unto man He said:

Behold the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,

And to depart from evil is understanding.

XX.

M. Lord, who shall abide in Thy tabernacle?

C.

He that walketh uprightly and speaketh the truth,

He who slandereth not with his tongue and injureth not his

friend,

He who bringeth not a reproach against his neighbor.

Great is truth and mighty above all things.

All the earth calleth upon the truth, and the heaven

blesseth it.

All works shake and tremble at it,

And with it is no unrighteous thing.

It endureth and is always strong;

It liveth and conquereth forevermore.

With her there is no acceptance of persons or rewards,
Neither in her judgment is any unrighteousness;

But she doeth the things that are just,

And refraineth from all unjust and wicked things.

She is glorious and never fadeth away.

She is easily seen of those who love her, and found of

those who seek her.

All men do like well of her works,

And she is the strength and kingdom and majesty of

all ages.

She is the brightness of the everlasting light,

The breath of the power of God, the image of His goodness.
