forth the praises of the Lord. All the flocks of Kedar fhall be gathered together unto thee; the rams of Nebaioth shall minifter unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory.-Surely the ifles fhall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish fhall be first, to bring thy fons from far, their filver and their gold with them, unto the name of the Lord thy God; and 10 the Holy One of Ifrael, because he hath glorified thee. And the fons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings fhall minifter unto thee: for in my wrath I fmote thee, but in my favour have I had mercy on thee.-Therefore thy gates fhall be open continually : they fhall not be shut day nor night, that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought ". *.

10. AND to fhew that fhall not be a transient visit, he adds,The fun shall be no more thy Ight by day; neither for brightnefs fhall the moon give light unto thee (i. e. thou fhalt not need fecondary means) but the Lord fhall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.-Thy fun fhall no more go down; neither fall thy moon withdraw itfelf: for the Lord shall be thine everlafting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended: thy people, aljo, shall be all righteous: they fhall inhabit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.-A little one fhall become a tboufand, and a small one a strong nation: I the Lord will haften it in his time.

of Jews and Gentiles, when the middle wall of partition fhall be thrown down. In the fame bleffed ftrain the Lord continues to speak, For Zion's fake will I not hold my peace, and for Ferufalem's fake will I not reft, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the falvation thereof as a lamp that burneth. And the Gentiles fhall fee thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory; and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord fhall name. To the fame purpofe he adds, and I will fet my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen fhall fee my judgment which I have executed, hand that I have laid upon them.†

12. THUS fhall be fulfilled what our Lord faid, when speaking to the Jews, And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold, them alfo Imuft bring, and they fkall hear my voice; and there fhall be one fold and one shepherd.‡ And to this great truth St. Paul fets his feal, that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confefs to thee among the Gentiles and fing unto thy name. And again he faith, rejoice ye Gentiles with his people. And again, praise the Lord all ye Gentiles; and laud him all ye people. And again, Isaiah faith, there fhall be a root of Fesse, and he shali rife to reign over the Gentiles, in him shall the Gentiles truft. Thus fhall every knee bow, and every tongue confefs him to be Lord to the glory of the Father. As to calculating the time when this glorious revolution fhall take place, is what I fhall not attempt; wiser than I have done this and have been mistaken, and perhaps in this also it may be faid, It is uot for us to know the times and the

the feafons which the Father hath put in his own power.* What I have attempted to prove is, that this glorious feafon fhall take place, and this I trust the cloud of witneffes already quoted abundantly proves. For as Jehovah hath fpoken it, he will not fail to make it good. For as the rain and fnow come down from Heaven; fo fhall the word of God be, it shall not return void, but shall accomplish that which he pleases, and shall prosper in the thing whereunto he finds it.* Amen even fo Lord Jesus!

Thee Lord let every tongue confefs,

Let every knee to Jefus bow;
O all redeeming prince of peace,
We long to fee thy kingdom now.

WHO would not long for the bleffed time to take place, and every gracious promife to be accomplished? and if he who teftifies these things faith, furely I come quickly: Who will not heartily cry out, come Lord Jefus ! come quickly!

1SA. lxvi. 25.

They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain faith the Lord.

HAVING already confidered the bleffed ingathering

of both Jews and Gentiles, to one fold, and under one fhepherd, the Lord who brought them; we come now to confider the bleffed change confequent hereupon, That the wilderness and the folitary place fhall be glad; and the defert fhall rejoice, and blossom as a rofe. I own every thing here is impoffible to man, and fo are all the aforementioned steps of the glory of the latter day; And here I expect the accute philofopher will find many objections, and his reason will be apt to reject every thing with the greateft contempt..

2. BUT please to observe, I addrefs myself to fuch as believe the bible, from whence every proof is drawn, and as God hath faid it he will not fail in accomplishing the fame. But reafon can never fathom or comprehend the

things

things of God; for if every thing must be brought to the bar of reason, then must a great part of the bible be laid afide. For instance, the bible tells me, how God deftroyed the whole world by a flood, except one man and his family; here my reafon fails to comprehend this; that by the blowing with rams horns, the ftrong walls of a fortified city fell; that the fun and moon stood still for a day; that a man lived in the belly of a fish three days and three nights; that a virgin did bring forth a fon; that he fed about five thousand people with five barley loaves and two fishes; that the fame Jefus cured multitudes with a touch or a word; I fay all this is as much above the reach of hu man reason, as heaven is above the earth: fo that if we will receive nothing, but what must be accounted for upon natural principles, without the immediate interpofition of God, we must believe very litle of the history of the bible; therefore upon this principle it is, viz. God hath faid it, and he will make it good, that I ground my arguments in the following difcourfe, namely, that he will bring about a glorious revolution, both in the animal and vegetable tribes, and will take away the noxious qualities, both of the one and the other.

To render this important point a little clear, it may be needful first, to take notice of their original state and utility. Secondly, of their prefent ftate. Thirdly, what they shall be.

First, then, I am to confider the original ftate of animals and vegetables. With regard unto animals, God fays, Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness 3
