amen; God himself bearing witness by signs and wonders. They are offered to us with freeness the most unbounded: so that whosoever will may come and partake of them. They will make us truly wise, holy, and spiritually minded: they will support us under the severest trials; and inspire us with the noblest magnanimity and elevation of soul: and, in a word, unite us to God, and make us partakers of his likeness and glory.

O, my God, let me never neglect or despise these precious promises; nor let me ever hope for comfort from them, but in the way of real holiness. Let me never more despond in any of my trials and afflictions! Never doubt the power, the love, the faithfulness of that God, who has given such words for my consolation! Here, my soul, leave all thy burdens and cares! When discouraged and fainting, here be thy rest! These are the everlasting arms that strengthen and uphold all that fear God; that conduct them through life, deliver them in death, and ensure their complete and eternal salvation!

HYMN

For Monday Morning.

Begin, my tongue, some heavenly theme,
And speak some boundless thing;
The mighty works, or mightier name
Of our eternal King.

Tell of his wondrous faithfulness,
And sound his power abroad;
Sing the sweet promise of his grace,
And the performing God.

Proclaim salvation from the Lord
For wretched dying men :
His hand has writ the sacred word
With an immortal pen.

Engrav'd as in eternal brass

The mighty promise shines;
Nor can the powers of darkness rase
Those everlasting lines.

His every word of grace is strong

As that which built the skies;

The voice that rolls the stars along,
Speaks all the promises.

PRAYER

For Monday Morning,

O most gracious Lord God, the eyes of all wait upon thee: thou art the hope of all the ends of the earth. In thee we live, and move, and have our being: thou givest us life, and health, and all things. Still thou takest care of us, and watchest over us, even in the hours of sleep, when we are unable to take care of ourselves. Thy mercies are daily renewed; thy goodness is repeated every morning: yea, every moment dost thou give us fresh occasion of praise and thanksgiving. Blessed be thy name, for the peace, rest, and safety of the night past. Enable us in the strength of thy grace to love thee truly, to serve thee faithfully, and to depend on thee without wavering. In all our ways may we acknowledge thee; and be thou graciously pleased to establish our goings, and direct our path. We desire to put ourselves under thy gracious conduct, and thy fatherly protection this day. We beg the heavenly guidance, blessing, and assistance of thy good Spirit, to choose our inheritance for us, and to dispose of us

and all that concerns us, to the glory of thy great name. O Lord, withdraw not thy tender mercies from us, neither shut up thy loving-kindness in displeasure; but grant us such a well founded apprehension of thy free acceptance of us, and of thy gracious intentions towards us in the Son of thy love; that our hearts may bless thee, and all that is within us may praise thy holy name. May we each of us be enabled to say from our own experience, "All thy ways are ways of pleasantness, and thy paths paths of peace:" in keeping them there is great reward. He that loveth them, loveth life. O Lord, keep us this day from sin: subdue as well as pardon our iniquities: and may we exercise ourselves to have always a conscience void of offence, both towards God, and towards man. Whilst upon earth, grant us a supply of all things needful for us in the house of our pilgrimage. Sanctify to us our enjoyments, and our occupations ; our comforts, and our crosses; every condition we are in, and every event that shall befal us. Enable us to live to thy honour and glory: and so to pass through things temporal, as finally to lose not the things which are eternal. If thou enlighten us not, we shall run into error; if thou

prevent not, we shall relapse into sin; if thou preserve us not, we shall fall into dangers. O let thy good providence be our defence and security; and thy Holy Spirit be our comforter, guide, and counsellor in all our ways: until, through the merits of thy Son, and the multitude of thy mercies, thou hast made us meet for the inheritance of thy saints in glory everlasting. Amen.

HYMN

For Monday Evening.

Lord, I have made thy word my choice,
My lasting heritage:

There shall my noblest powers rejoice,
My warmest thoughts engage.

I'll read the histories of thy love,
And keep thy laws in sight;
While through the promises I rove,
With ever fresh delight.

'Tis a broad land of wealth unknown
Where springs of life arise,
Seeds of immortal bliss are sown,
And hidden glory lies.

The best relief that mourners have;
It makes our sorrows blest:
Our fairest hope beyond the grave,
And our eternal rest.
