THE VOICE FROM GALILEE.

"Of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace." -JOHN, i. 16.

I HEARD the voice of Jesus say,
Come unto me and rest;

Lay down, thou weary one, lay down
Thy head upon my breast.
I came to Jesus as I was,

Weary, and worn, and sad,

I found in Him a resting-place,
And He has made me glad.

I heard the voice of Jesus say,
Behold, I freely give

The living water, thirsty one,

Stoop down, and drink, and live.

I came to Jesus and I drank

Of that life-giving stream,

My thirst was quenched, my soul revived,

And now I live in Him.

BETHLEHEM HYMN.

I heard the voice of Jesus say,
I am this dark world's light,
Look unto me, thy morn shall rise
And all thy day be bright.

I looked to Jesus and I found
In Him, my Star, my Sun;
And in that light of life I'll walk
Till travelling days are done.

A BETHLEHEM HYMN.

"Mundum implens, in præsepio jacens."-AUGUSTINE.

HE has come! the Christ of God;

Left for us his glad abode;

Stooping from his throne of bliss,

To this darksome wilderness.

He has come! the Prince of Peace ;

Come to bid our sorrows cease;
Come to scatter, with his light,
All the shadows of our night.

BETHLEHFM HYMN.

He the mighty King has come!
Making this poor earth his home;
Come to bear sin's sad load;-

Son of David, Son of God.

He has come, whose name of grace
Speaks deliverance to our race;

Left for us his glad abode;

Son of Mary, Son of God!

Unto us a child is born!

Ne'er has earth beheld a morn

Among all the morns of time,

Half so glorious in its prime.

Unto us a Son is given!

He has come from God's own heaven;

Bringing with him from above,

Holy peace and holy love.

THIS DO IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.

HERE, O my Lord, I see thee face to face;

Here would I touch and handle things unseen; Here grasp with firmer hand the eternal grace, And all my weariness upon Thee lean.

Here would I feed upon the bread of God;

Here drink with Thee the royal wine of heaven;

Here would I lay aside each earthly load,
Here taste afresh the calm of sin forgiven.

This is the hour of banquet and of song,

This is the heavenly table spread for me; Here let me feast, and, feasting, still prolong The brief bright hour of fellowship with Thee..

Too soon we rise; the symbols disappear;

The feast, though not the love, is passed and gone. The bread and wine remove, but Thou art here, Nearer than ever, still my Shield and Sun.

THIS DO IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.

163

I have no help but thine; nor do I need
Another arm save thine to lean upon.
It is enough, my Lord, enough, indeed;

My strength is in thy might,-thy might alone.

I have no wisdom, save in Him who is
My wisdom and my teacher, both in one;
No wisdom can I lack while Thou art wise,
No teaching do I crave, save thine alone.

Mine is the sin, but thine the righteousness;
Mine is the guilt, but thine the cleansing blood;
Here is my robe, my refuge, and my peace,-
Thy blood, thy righteousness, O Lord my God.

I know that deadly evils compass me,

Dark perils threaten, yet I would not fear, Nor poorly shrink, nor feebly turn to flee,Thou, O my Christ, art buckler, sword, and spear.

But see, the Pillar-cloud is rising now,

And moving onward through the desert-night;

It beckons, and I follow, for I know

It leads me to the heritage of light.
