WITH SENTIMENTS OF THE HIGHEST ESTEEM,

THE FOLLOWING

SERMON

IS INSCRIBED TO

The REV. WILLIAM SPOONER, Vicar,

AND TO

THE INHABITANTS OF CAMPDEN,

BY THEIR

OBLIGED AND AFFECTIONATE FRIEND

THE AUTHOR.

PREFACE.

THE Author of the following discourse makes no pretension to literary merit. Written under impressions, which would suffer no other train of thought to pass before his mind, and to flow from his pen, it is printed chiefly for the benefit of those, to whom originally it was addressed. The pecuniary profits of the publication, if any, will be presented to the Church Missionary, and the British and Foreign Bible Societies. If this humble discourse proves useful, in leading even an individual to a proper view of the mournful event, which occasioned its delivery from the pulpit, the Author's main design will be answered. He commends it to the divine blessing, and to the candour of those, into whose hands it may fall.
