which I would now gladly recal for that purpose. O all-wise and all-powerful Creator, a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday," and thou art the same 'yesterday, to-day, and for ever,” but with thy weak and erring creatures every moment of their brief probation here awfully affects their eternal state hereafter. We vibrate between good and evil ; often when our hearts would draw near unto thee, our feet slip back, and we feel continually that “ the way of man is not in himself, it is not in man that walketh, to direct his steps.” Hold thou me up then, O Lord, that I slip not. “ Teach me so to number my days that I may apply my heart unto wisdom.”

Grant that I may redeem the fleeting moments I have lost ; that I may cultivate my understanding with all care, and keep my heart with all diligence, and daily endeavour to draw nearer to thee. O gracious Father, be pleased to make the year now opening unto us, under thy blessing, a year of improvement, and happiness, and love : bless my dear parents, my kindred, and my friends, with health, competence and peace ; and enrich them above all with the knowledge of thee, and the desire to do thy will. Bless all thy people, O Lord, and be gracious unto them. “Satisfy us with thy mercy, and that early ; so shall we rejoice and be glad all the days of our life," here, and finally gain eternal life hereafter through redemption by thee our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Prayer before Reading the Holy Scriptures.

“ Lord, open thou mine eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. Teach me thy statutes, make me to understand the way of thy precepts."---Ps. cxix.

O Almighty Lord, who alone givest wisdom unto the wise, and in thy good pleasure makest wise the simple, who hast told us to scarch the Scriptures, wherein we have eternal life, and hast promised that to those who ask it shall be given, mercifully grant that I may open thy holy word with profound veneration of its sanctity and divine wisdom, with a humble and teachable disposition to profit by its precepts, and with an earnest desire to regulate my heart and conduct, according to thy statutes and ordinances as revealed therein. Let me not “ exercise myself in great matters, or things too high for me,” but mercifully grant me that knowledge which may be able to make me “wise unto salvation, through faith,” which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

Prayer on going into Church.

I will praise thee O God, I will glorify thy name in thy holy temple ; let the words of my mouth, and the meditations of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord my strength and my Redeemer. Amen.

Prayer on leaving Church.

Grant, I beseech thee, merciful Lord, that the words I have heard with my outward ears, may, by thy grace, be so grafted inwardly in my heart, that they may bring forth the fruits of good works, and enable me' worthily to magnify thy holy name, now and for evermore. Amen.

ADORATION.

“ Praise ye the Lord : praise God in his sanctuary. Praise him in the firmament of his power : praise him for his mighty acts : praise him according to his excellent greatness. Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord." ---Ps. cl.

“ The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom ruleth over all. Bless the Lord, ye bis angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Bless the Lord, all ye his hosts ! ye ministers of his that do his pleasure. Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of bis dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul !”.

O Lord, our God, thou art very great, thou art clothed with honor and majesty. Thou coverest thyself with light as with a garment; thou stretchedst out the heavens like a curtain ; thou layest the beams of thy chambers in the waters; thou makest the clouds thy chariot ; thou walkest upon the wings of the wind.”

We worship thee, O Lord, who madest heaven and earth, the sea, and the fountains of waters ; who spakest, and it was done ; who didst command and it stood fast; who said, let there be light, and there was light : let there be a firmament, and thou madest the firmament : who didst make all things very good, and they continue this day according to thine ordinance, for they are all thy servants. The day is thine, the night also is thine. Thou hast prepared the light and the sun ; thou hast set all the borders of the earth ; thou bast made summer and winter ; thou upholdest all things by the word of thy power, and by thee all things consist."

in the whirlwind, and in the storm ; and the clouds are the dust of his feet. He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up the rivers. The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea the world, and all that dwell therein."

With thee, also, O Lord, is wisdom and strength ; thou hast counsel and understanding ; thine understanding is infinite ; thou tellest the number of the stars, and callest thein all by their

Thou art wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working, wise in heart, and mighty in strength.” “O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all. O the depth of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out.” “ Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” “ The earth is full of thy riches ; so also is the great and wide sea.” “ The eyes of all wait upon thee, and thou givest them their moat in due season. est thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.” “O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom bast thou made them all; the earth is full of thy riches.” “Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it; thou greatly enrichest it
