For ever be thy name adored

For these celestial lines.

2 Here springs of consolation rise,
To cheer the fainting mind;
The needy here receive supplies,
And rest the weary find.

3 Divine Instructor! gracious Lord!
Be thou for ever near;
Teach us to love thy sacred word,
And view our Saviour there.

1 THESSALONIANS V. 18.

1 FATHER of mercies now create

In us a thankful mind;

Thy loving kindness, Oh, how great
To us and all mankind!

2 Thanks for creation are thy due,
For life preserved by thee;
And all thy blessings, fresh and new,
So great and yet so free.

C. M.

3 Thanks for redemption to our race,
By thee through Jesus given;
Thanks for the plenteous means of grace,
And for the hope of heaven.

4 Oh, may thy goodness all our days,
Our best affections move;

That while our lips proclaim thy praise,
Our hearts may feel thy love.

PHILIPPIANS ii. 4-8.

FATHER of mercies, send thy grace,
All powerful from above,

To form in our obedient souls
The image of thy love.

2 Oh, may our sympathizing hearts
That generous pleasure know,
Kindly to share in others joy,
And feel for others woe.

3 When the poor helpless sons of grief
In low distress are laid,

Soft be our hearts to soothe their pain,
And swift our hands to aid.

4 So Jesus looked on dying men,
When throned above the skies;
Pitied our helpless ruined state,
And felt compassion rise.

5 Down from the realms of bliss he came,

Was laid within the

grave;

And gave his own most precious blood
Our helpless souls to save.

[blocks in formation]

1 FATHER, to thee our souls we lift,
On thee our hope depends,

Convinced that every perfect gift
From thee alone descends.

2 Mercy and grace are thine alone,
And power and wisdom too;

C. M.

Without the spirit of thy Son

We nothing good can do.

3 Thou all our works in us hast wrought,
Our good is all divine ;

The praise of every holy thought
And righteous word, is thine.

4 From thee, through Jesus, we receive
The power on thee to call;

In whom we are, and move, and live.
Our God is all in all.

HEBREWS xiii. 5.

FATHER, whate'er of earthly bliss
Thy sovereign will denies,

Accepted at the throne of grace,
Let this petition rise;

2 Give me a calm, a thankful heart,
From every murmur free,

The blessings of thy grace impart
And make me live to thee.

3 Let the sweet hope that thou art mine,
My life and death attend;

C. M.

Thy presence through my journey shine,
And crown my journey's end.

PHIL. ii. 15, 16. 1 THESS. i. 7, 8.

FAVORED spot the land we live in,

Mercies in our lot abound;

8. 7. 4.

Chiefly that to us is given,
To convey the joyful sound;
To convey it

To the nations all around.

2 They to whom this grace is given
Faithful to their trust should prove;
Living as the heirs of heaven,
Full of earnestness and love;
Ever looking

To the God who reigns above.
3 God is with us; this may cheer us
Even in the darkest day :

God is with us, and will hear us,
When for his own cause we pray;
God is with us;

133

Nor shall triumph long delay.

JOHN X. 28-xvii. 2-12.

C. M.

1 FIRMER than earth thy Gospel stands,
Jesus, our hope and trust;
And since our souls are in thy hands,
They cannot e'er be lost.

2 Thy honor is engaged to save,
The feeblest of thy sheep;

All that thy Heavenly Father gave,
Thou wilt securely keep.

3 No dangers can our hopes remove,
No ills our peace destroy;

For thine eternal power and love,
Secure our endless joy.

PSALM CXVI. 12.

FOR blessings numberless, bestowed

On sinners doomed to die, Blessings, which like the love of God, Will last eternally,

2 Shall we a little love return,
A little service pay?

Away from us such heartless scorn,
Such selfishness, away!

3 As onward to our home we move,
Could we his law fulfil,

And love him with a perfect love,
We should be debtors still.

4 While each adoring seraph sings,
We will adore him too;

For all the praise creation brings
Is less than is his due.

EPHESIANS iv. 30.

FORBID it Lord that we,

Who from thy hand receive,

The grace from wrath and death to flee,
Should e'er thy Spirit grieve.

2 Oh, keep our faith alive,

3

Help us to watch and pray;
Lest by our carelessness we drive
The sacred guest away.

How can we bear to lose

Our best and kindest friend;
