2 Glory to him who humbly came
To dwell with us below:

Our sin to bear, remove our shame,
And save from endless woe.

3 Glory to him who leads the soul
To penitence and prayer;
Makes faith our unbelief control,
And hope o'ercome despair.

4 Glory to God from every tongue,
Which here can lisp his love;
And higher glory from the throng
Of all the blessed above.

5 Angels and saints, through earth and heaven, Let your sweet anthems swell;

Ye saints whose fall has been forgiven,
And ye who never fell.

EVENING HYMN.

YLORY to thee, my God, this night,
For all the blessings of the light;
Keep me, O keep me, King of kings,
Under thine own almighty wings.

2 Forgive me, Lord, for thy dear Son,
The ills that I this day have done;
That with the world, myself, and thee,
I, ere I sleep, at peace may be.

3 Oh, may my soul on thee repose,
And with sweet sleep my eyelids close:

L. M.

Sleep that may me more active make,
To serve my God when I awake.
4 Teach me to live, that I may dread
The grave as little as my bed;
Teach me to die, that so I may
With joy behold the judgment day.
5 For death is life, and labor rest,
If with thy gracious presence blest;
Then welcome sleep or death to me,
I'm still secure, for still with thee.

6 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow,
Praise him all creatures here below:
Praise him above, ye heavenly host,
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

1 THESSALONIANS iv. 16-17.

LORY unto Jesus be,

1 GLO

From the curse he set us free;
All our guilt on him was laid;
He the ransom fully paid.

2 His atoning work is done;

God has owned him as his Son;
He hath raised him from the dead
Over all things to be Head.

3 Ye who love him cease to mourn,
Soon he will to earth return:
Then his saints shall rise again,
And with him for ever reign.

1 PETER ii. 21.

Go to dark Gethsemane,

Ye who feel the tempter's power;
Your Redeemer's conflict see;
Watch with him one bitter hour;
Turn not from his griefs away,
Learn from him to watch and pray.
2 See him at the judgment-hall,
Beaten, bound, reviled, arraigned;
See him meekly bearing all,
Love to man his soul sustained:
Shun not suffering, shame, or loss,
Learn of Christ to bear the cross.

3 Calvary's mournful mountain view,
There the Lord of glory see,
Made a sacrifice for you,
Dying on the accursed tree:
"It is finished," hear him cry;
Trust in Christ, and learn to die.

4 To the rocky tomb repair,

Where they laid his breathless clay;
Angels kept their vigils there,
Who hath taken him away?

"Christ is risen," he seek the skies;
Saviour, teach us so to rise.

[blocks in formation]

In vain to heaven we raise our cries,
And leave our souls behind.

2 In spirit and in truth alone,

We must present our prayer; For formal hypocrites are known, Through the disguise they wear. 3 Their lifted eyes salute the skies, Their bended knees the ground; But God abhors the sacrifice,

Where the heart is not found.

4 Lord search our thoughts, try all our ways, And make our hearts sincere ;

Then shall we stand before thy face,
And find acceptance there.

ISAIAH xliii. 21.

1 YOD is goodness, wisdom, power,
Love him, praise him, evermore:

Let us strive, and never cease,
Him in everything to please.

2 Born for this intent we are,
Our Creator to declare;

God to love, and serve, and praise,
God to honor all our days.

3 Holy, holy, holy Lord,

Be by heaven and earth adored;
Let all beings lift their cry,
Glory be to God Most High.

GOD is our Guardian and our Guide,

L. M.

His care must for our wants provide ; He only can from grief defend, Or lead us to our journey's end. 2 Holy and just, he hates to see least iniquity;

The very
Omniscient, he doth always know
All that his people think or do.
3 His bounty doth our comforts give,
Sustained by him we move and live;
Our countless sins he hath forgiven,
He cheers on earth and gives us heaven.
4 Oh! if we wish that heaven to win,
We must not dare to live in sin;
We must not sin, if we would please
Him who our thoughts and actions sees.

PSALM xlvi.

OD is our refuge, tried, and proved,
Amid a stormy world;

C. M.

We will not fear, though earth be moved,
And hills in ocean hurled.

2. The waves may roar, the mountains shake, Our comforts shall not cease:

The Lord his saints will not forsake;
The Lord will give us peace.

3 Exhaustless streams of grace and love,
To us shall ever flow;
