4 Engraved, as on eternal brass,

The mighty promise shines;

Nor can the powers of darkness rase,
Those everlasting lines.

5 Each word of sovereign grace is strong,
As that which built the skies;
The voice that rolled the stars along,
Speaks all the promises.

ET us go to Golgotha,

LE

There to muse, and love, and pray; Since we've seen our Saviour thus, Suffer, bleed, and die for us. 2 Jesus' blood for sinners spilt, Shows our sin in all its guilt; 'Twas for us he bore that load, We have slain the Lamb of God. 3 We will glory in his cross, Nought besides shall us engross; Jesus died that we might be, From the world and folly free. 4 Meet it is he should control, As our King each ransomed soul; To his will we all resign,

Jesus we are wholly thine.

ET us love, and serve, and praise

LE

Our Redeemer all our days,

Who exalts with him to dwell,
Slaves of sin, and heirs of hell.
2 When the curse upon us lay,
When we yet were Satan's prey,
None but he could seek and save;
He eternal praise shall have.

3 Through his sufferings we are blest,
Through his sorrows we have rest ;
He our curse and sorrow bore,
Let us love him evermore.

4 He our Shepherd, Brother, Friend,
Guards and keeps us to the end;
Comforts in each trying hour,
And protects from Satan's power.

5 Since our sins on him were laid,
He of God to us is made,
In our ruin, life, and peace,
Wisdom, strength, and righteousness.

6 'Tis his Spirit dwells within,
To deliver us from sin;

Through his love to us are given,
Grace on earth and bliss in heaven.

7 When we grieve, our grief he shares, When we pray, he hears our prayers; Pities us beneath our load,

Is our Advocate with God.

8 Precious gifts! beyond all price, Purchased by his sacrifice;

Here our earthly sojourn bless,
And conduct to endless peace.
9 Thus he saves a countless host,
Of the guilty and the lost;
Ransomed by his offered blood,
Rendered holy, wise, and good.

10 What could make him suffer thus,
To deliver such as us?

Pardon hatred, pride, disdain,
Raise us with himself to reign?
11Oh, how great the love he shows!
Great the bliss which he bestows!
May his glory still increase,
May his praises never cease.

12 We will love while life shall last;
We will praise when death is past;
And when raised no more to die,
Praise and love eternally.

ET us love, and sing, and wonder;
Let us praise the Saviour's name ;
He has hushed the law's loud thunder,
He has quenched Mount Sinai's flame:
He has washed us with his blood,
He has brought us nigh to God.

2 Let us love the Lord who bought us,
Dying for our rebel race;

Called us by his word, and taught us
By the Spirit of his grace;

He has washed us with his blood, He presents our souls to God. 3 Let us praise, and join the chorus Of his saints enthroned on high; Here, they trusted him before us, Now, their praises fill the sky"Thou hast washed us with thy blood; Thou art worthy, Lamb of God!"

JAMES i. 27. ECCLESIASTES Vii. 2.

ET us not seek the house of mirth,
Or boundless treasures hoard;
Or eager strive to win from earth,

All that it can afford.

2 Rather with joy will we pursue
The path the Saviour trod;
Keep all his precepts in our view,
And imitate our God.

3 He left the adoring heavenly host,
And was a man of grief;

To bring salvation to the lost,
And to the sad relief.

4 Thus we will seek the lowly spot,
Where pain or sorrow hides,
Whence joys are fled, where faith is not,
And nought but grief abides.

5 There we will pour that holy balm,
Which heals the wounded breast;

Till trust in the Almighty arm,
Shall give the mourners rest.

C. M.

6 There we will tell them Jesus died,
Their sinful souls to save;

And they will trust the crucified,
And triumph o'er the grave.

7 Do thou, O Lord, our efforts own,
Our work of weakness bless;

Till many a sufferer, through thy Son,

Shall

grace and

peace possess.

ET us praise the King of heaven, To his feet our tribute bring; Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, Who like us his praise should sing? Praise him, praise him,

Praise the everlasting King.

2 Praise him for his grace and favor,
To our fathers in distress;

Praise him still the same for ever,
Slow to chide, and swift to bless;
Praise him, praise him,

Glorious in his faithfulness.

3 Father-like he leads and spares us,
Well our feeble frame he knows;
In his hands he gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes:
Praise him, praise him,
'Tis to us his mercy flows.
