And save by thy resistless might,
The slaves of sin and heirs of wrath.

4 Convert the heathen e'er they die;
New triumphs to the truth afford;
The name of Jesus glorify;

And make the nations own their Lord.

PSALM Cvi. 4. LUKE xxiii. 42.

C. M.

THOU from whom all goodness flows, my heart to thee;

I lift

In all my sorrows, conflicts, woes,

Jesus, remember me.

2 When on my sad and burdened heart,
My sins lie heavily,

Since thou alone canst peace impart,
My Lord, remember me.

3 When foes beset my lonely way,
And ills I cannot flee,

And dreary is each hopeless day,
My Lord, remember me.

4 If on my face, for thy dear name,
Shame and reproaches be,

And for thy sake I welcome shame,
In love remember me.

5 And when at last the hour of death
Fulfils thy just decree,

And when my lips resign their breath,
Oh, still remember me.

HEBREWS ii. 17.-vii. 25.-x,10-12.

C. M.

THOU who didst on Calvary bleed,
For sinners to atone,

And for thy saints dost intercede,

Before the Father's throne,

2 To thee, our great High Priest we come,
By thee our prayers we bring;

And but for thee should now be dumb,
Before the eternal King.

3 Thy blood and spotless righteousness,
Åre our continual plea;

And whilst the Father we address,
We do it still through thee.

4 Our offering and our Priest art thou,
Whose prayer acceptance gains;
Plead thou for us, O Saviour, now
Thy merits and thy pains.

PSALM XC. 2. PROVERBS XV. 3. JEREMIAH Xvii. 10. 1 JOHN iv. 16.

C. M.

THOU who dwell'st in bliss unseen,
Unutterably pure,

Thou from eternity hast been,

And ever shalt endure.

2 Present, alike in every place,
Thy Godhead we adore;
Beyond the bounds of time and space,
Thou dwell'st for evermore.

3 In wisdom infinite thou art,

Thine eye doth all things see;

And every thought of every heart,
Is fully known to thee.

4 Whate'er thou wilt in earth below
Thou dost, and heaven above;
But chiefly we rejoice to know
O God, that thou art Love.

ISAIAH XlV. 19.

THOU who hearest prayer,
Behold us at thy feet;

Now let us prove thy presence here
Where two or three are met.

2 Thy promise Lord we plead,
Nor can we plead in vain ;

3

Thou never said'st to Israel's seed,
"Seek ye my face in vain."

Praise shall to thee ascend

From whom our comforts flow,

From whom refreshing showers descend
To make our graces grow.

[blocks in formation]

How true, how good thou art;

Lord send a gracious answer down
To every waiting heart !

ACTS ii. 1-4. EPHESIANS v. 18. JAMES i. 5.
2 PETER iii. 18.

S. M.

C. M.

THOU, who known thro' fiery tongues,
Cam'st down in open view,

Now visit every heart that longs

To entertain thee too.

2 And though not like the mighty wind,
Nor with a rushing noise,

May we thy equal influence find,
And taste of equal joys.

3 Not for the gift of tongues we pray,
Nor power the sick to heal;
Give wisdom to direct our way,
And strength to do thy will.

4 We pray to have our faith increased
To grow in hope and love;
With zeal and lion-courage blessed,
Yet gentle as the dove.

PSALM 1xxiii. 25, 26.

THOU who wilt not fail to grant
To simple men below,

Whatever needy souls can want

Or boundless love bestow,

2 Help us thy gracious hand to trace
In all the gifts we share;
And give to each its proper place,
Lest they should prove a snare.

C. M.

3 We thank thee, Lord, for health and ease,
Safe homes and faithful friends;
But 'tis not on such things as these
That happiness depends.

4 For us no joys can health procure
Except thy love we see;

Pleasure is pain, and wealth is poor,
When separate from thee.

5 Thou art the treasure of our heart;
Thy grace our richest gain;
Whatever comforts may depart,
Oh, let thy grace remain.

THOU whom neither time nor space, Can circle in, unseen, unknown, Nor boldest flight of thought could trace, Save through thy Spirit and thy Son2 And thou that from thy bright abode, To us in mortal weakness shown, Didst graft the manhood into God, Co-equal, co-eternal Son

3 And thou whose unction from on high, By comfort, light and love is known, Who with the parent Deity,

Bless'd Spirit art for ever one—

4 Great First and Last, thy blessing give,
And grant us faith, thy gift alone,
To love and praise thee while we live,
And do whate'er thou would'st have done.

THOU whom we have learned to love,
From whom we had our birth,

Thou art our bliss in heaven above,

And thou upon this earth.
