To the world and sin to die,
Is not death, but victory.

4 Dost thou, Jesus, condescend
To be called the sinner's Friend?
Ours then it shall always be

To obey and follow thee.

MARK X. 13-16. ACTS ii. 39. 1 TIMOTHY iii. 16.

[blocks in formation]

1 OUR children Lord in faith and prayer

We do devote to thee;

Let them thy covenant mercies share
And thy salvation see.

2 Such helpless babes thou didst embrace,
While dwelling here below:
To us and ours, O God of grace,
The same compassion show.

3 In early days their hearts secure
From worldly snares, we pray;
And let them to the end endure
In every righteous way.

4 Grant us before them, Lord, to live
In holy faith and fear;

To us a heaven of glory give,
And bring our children there.

OUR

1 CORINTHIANS XV. 53-58.

L. M.

UR day declines, we soon shall sleep,
Buried in darkness long and deep ;
But it is scarcely death to die,
Secure of immortality.

2 For from the grave these forms shall rise, Triumphant tenants of the skies,

And we, where Christ his sceptre sways,
Shall share his joy, and swell his praise.

3 O death, what terrors clothe thy brow?
O grave, where is thy victory now?
Who would not wage this mortal strife,
To reach a new and glorious life?

4 Thanks be to God, and praise, and love,
From all on earth and all above;

Through Christ the victory we shall win,
O'er grief and pain, o'er death and sin.

OUR

[blocks in formation]

UR God and King, thy various praise
Shall fill the remnant of our days,
Thy grace employ each humble tongue,
Till death and glory raise the song.
2 The wings of every hour shall bear
Some thankful tribute to thine ear;
And every setting sun shall see
New works of duty done for thee.

3 Thy truth and justice we'll proclaim;
Thy bounty flows an endless stream;
Thy mercy swift, thine anger slow,
Thy goodness spreads o'er all below.

4 Let distant times and nations raise
The long succession of thy praise;

And unborn ages make our songs

The glad employment of their tongues.
5 But who can speak thy wondrous deeds?
Thy greatness all our thoughts exceeds:
Vast and unsearchable thy ways,
Vast and immortal be thy praise.

1 JOHN iv. 7, 8, 11, 20.-v. 1, 2.-ii. 9.

OUR God is Love; and all his saints

His image bear below;

The heart with love to God inspired
With love to man will glow.

2 Teach us to love each other Lord,
As we are loved by thee;
None who are truly born of God
Can live in enmity.

3 Heirs of the same immortal bliss,
Our hopes and fears the same;
With bonds of grace our hearts unite,
With mutual love inflame.

4 So may the vain contentious world

See how true christians love;

And glorify the Saviour's grace,
And seek that

grace to prove.

PSALM CXXi.

C. M.

C. M.

1 UR help comes down from God above

Who made the earth and skies:

His arm his might, his heart is love;
To him we lift our eyes.

2 Preserved by him, we safe shall dwell,
Our footstep shall not slide,

What should we fear from earth or hell
While God is at our side?

3 His eye is watchful o'er us still,
And guards us day and night;
His hand is nigh to shield from ill
And guide our steps aright.

4 Our souls with him shall go and come,
Secure through every snare;

Then pass to their eternal home,
And serve him better there.

OUR

1 SAMUEL vii. 12.

UR helper, God, we bless his name,
Whose love for ever is the same;
The tokens of his guardian care

Open, and crown, and close the year.
2 Amidst ten thousand snares we stand,
Supported by his gracious hand;
And see, when we survey our ways,
Ten thousand monuments of praise.
3 Thus far his arm hath led us on,

Thus far we make his mercy known; And, while we tread this desert land, New mercies shall new songs demand. 4 Our grateful souls, on Jordan's shore, Shall raise one sacred pillar more; Then borne to his bright courts above, Adore him with immortal love.

1 TIMOTHY iii. 16. 1 PETER iii. 22.

UR Lord is risen from the dead,

OUR

Our Saviour is gone up on high; The powers of hell are captive led, Dragged to the portals of the sky. 2 There his triumphal chariot waits; And angels chaunt the solemn lay, "Loose all your bars ye heavenly gates, Ye everlasting doors, give way.' 3 Loose all your bars of massy light, And wide unfold the ethereal scene; He claims these mansions as his right, Receive the King of Glory in.

L. M.

4 "Who is the King of Glory, who?"
The Lord that all his foes o'ercame,
The world, sin, death, and hell o'erthrew,
And Jesus is the Conqueror's name.

5 Lo, his triumphal chariot waits,

And angels chaunt the solemn lay,
"Loose all your bars, ye heavenly gates,
Ye everlasting doors, give way."

6 "Who is the King of Glory, who?"
The Lord of glorious power possessed,
The King of saints and angels too,
God over all, for ever blest.
