EPISTLE. 2 Cor. vi. I, 10.
receive not the grace of God in vain. For he himself faith, In an acceptable time bave I heard thee: And in the day of salvation have I helped thee. * Behold now is the acceptable time: Behold now is the day of salvation.
Give no offence to any man, that our ministry may not be blamed. But in all things let us behave ourselves like servants of God with much patience in tribulation, in necessities, in distress, in stripes, in prisons, in feditions, in labours, in watchings, in fastings: With chastity, with knowledge, with longsuffering, with meekness, with the Holy Ghost, with unfeigned charity, with the word of truth, with the power of God; by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left: In honour and dishonour, in bad and good repute : As feducers, tho' we preach the truth : As unknown, tho' known : As dying, tho'behold we are alive: As persons punished, yet not killed: As forrowful, yet always rejoicing: As needy, yet enriching many: As having nothing, yet possessing all things.

T that time: Jefus was led by the spirit into the
desert, to be tempted by the Devil. And when he had fafted forty days and forty nights he was afterwards hungry. And the tempter coming, faid to him: If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered, and said, It is written: Not by bread alone doth man live, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of Goue. Then the Devil took him up into the holy city, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and faid to him: If thou be the Son of God cast thyself down, for it is written: He hath given his Angels charge over thee, and in their hands Mall they bear thee up, left perhaps thou dash thy foot against a stone. up into a very high mountain, and thewed him all the kingdoms of the world, and all the glory of thein, and said to him: All these will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and adore me.
Then Jesus faith to him: Begone Satan; for it is written : The Lord thy God halt thou a dore, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the Devil left him, and behold Angels caine, and ininistred to him. CREDO.

1. SECRET. E offer thee, O Lord, in the moft solemn
manner, this facrifice at the beginning of Lent, humbly beseeching thee, that as we retrench from the food of our bodies, we may also refrain from all noxious pleasures. Thro'.

by virtue of this facrament, thou may'st defend us from all enemies both of body and soul, give us grace in this life, and glory in the next.
III. SECRET. O
thy elect, who are to be eternally happy above: grant, we beseech thee, that, by the intercession of all thy faints, the names of those we have under taken to pray for, as likewise of all the faithful, may be wrote in the book of life. Thro'.

May it wash away our fins; may it strengthen us in our weakness; may it be a defence against all the dangers of the world; may it procure a pardon for fin to all the faithful both living and dead.
