RELATIVES

-Ps. 119:97.

19 Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall 20 do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against 21 the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or 22 sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, Matt. for my name's sake, shall receive an hundred fold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death and 23 the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.

Matt. 10:21

For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: Matt. 24 and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

BEWARE OF SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS

-Ps. 119:130.

Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes,
and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in
the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts.

Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long 20:47 prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen
of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father
which is in heaven.

[blocks in formation]

Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trum-MAR. pet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and 1 in the streets, that they may have glory of men.

Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the
Sadducees. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be
borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will
not move them with one of their fingers.

But all their works, they do for to be seen of men: they
make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of
their garments.

And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats 23:6,7 in the synagogues, And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

A roll of a book was therein; moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll and go speak unto the house of Israel. So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll.

But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they
knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they
listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how
it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many
things, and be set at nought.

But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have
done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.

But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the 10 days of Elias when the heavens were shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land.

THE TRUE NEIGHBOR

-Col. 3:16.

MAR.

A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and
fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and 12
wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

Luke 10:31

And by chance there came down a certain priest that
and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in cil

to an inn, and took care of him.

And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two
pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take
care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I
come again I will repay thee.

And ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

THE LOST, FOUND

-Deut. 11:18.

What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one 19 of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing, 20 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbors, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.

I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one 21 sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose 22 one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently until she find it?

And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her 23 neighbors together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.
