or affection, in word or deed against each other, and against thee. Feeling it as important to be restored to thine image as to be reinstated in thy favor, we pray for that repentance which is unto life. Forsaking every evil way, let sin no more have dominion over us; but may we enjoy the liberty of the sons of God.

Source of spiritual strength, our hearts' desire and prayer is, that we may have the new heart and the new life which Christ requires. We therefore seek a more strong, lively, and rational faith in him; a faith which shall have an efficacy and a permanence, which shall act within us as a practical persuasion of gospel truth, and a sufficient motive to a holy life. Renew us, O Lord, in the temper of our minds, so that we may put on Christ Jesus, break down the power of earthborn passions, and walk as children of the light. May Christ be formed in us the hope of glory; and in the great duties of religion, may we think as he thought, feel as he felt, and do as he did. And since we are invited to immortality, and have an interest in every moment of the eternal future, may we, before we reach heaven, bear the image of the heavenly; and at death be prepared to join the great assembly of the just made perfect in the regions of light, purity, and joy.

But we extend our wishes beyond ourselves. pray for our friends. May they be Christians in spirit and in deed. Give them increasing light

and knowledge; more love of sacred things, more faith and hope, more strength against temptation and sin, more purity and heavenly-mindedness, more indifference to the fleeting objects of earth, and more genuine piety. May they and we be holy as thou art holy, and continue faithful unto death. In the spirit of charity we would intercede for all orders, ages and tribes of men; but more particularly in behalf of the church; of the land in which we live; of those who rule over us; of christian ministers, schools of learning; our own neighborhood; the sorrowful and forsaken, the poor and the tempted, the widow and the fatherless, and all, in every 'condition, beseeching thee to do for them more and better than we can ask or even think.

Father and Friend of man, who givest to the weak thy gracious help, be with us now; be with us through the changes of time and nature; be with us in the hour of death, and be our portion in eternity. We offer our prayer in the name of him whom thou hearest always, ascribing to thee the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

CONCLUDING PRAYER.

High and holy Lord our God, we again come to seek a Parent's face and a Parent's blessing.

We thank thee that thou hast made us capable of knowing, and loving, and worshipping thee; and while our being endures we would celebrate thy praise. Created in the image of thine eternity, we would consider that every Sabbath has an influence on our immortal condition. We thank thee for what our eyes have seen and our ears have heard this day; and while we rejoice in the blessings of Christianity and the advantages of public worship, we earnestly pray, that we may be equally distinguished by the purity of our faith, and the holiness of our lives. We desire to go from the church into the world, better able to resist temptation, and better prepared to discharge duty. O God, be with us on our holy days, and be with us all our days that they may all be holy. Be with us in this place, and be with us when we return to our homes, that each house may be thy temple.

Bless all worshipping assemblies. We thank thee for the assurance, that amid the multitudes who have this day met in thy courts, not one sincere and humble worshipper has been overlooked or forgotten. In the bond of christian love and hope may they be helpers of each other's joy, and journey on together to the mansions of our Father's house, into which Christ, as our Forerunner, has already entered.

God of the Sabbath, we again thank thee for the opportunities we have this day enjoyed in thy

house of prayer. Let it please thee to fulfil the desires and petitions of thy servants, as may be most expedient for them. May we remember that this Sabbath brings us so much nearer to the time when we must give an account of all the privileges we have enjoyed or neglected; and as this may be the last one we shall see on earth, may we this night ask ourselves, if we are prepared to meet our Judge? We ask and offer all as the disciples of Jesus Christ. Amen.

BENEDICTION.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of his holy Spirit, be with us all forever. Amen.

MORNING PRAYER FOR A SCHOOL.

God of the morning, we would raise our thoughts to thee in adoration of thy perfections, and in thankful remembrance of thy goodness to the children of men. Every day and every moment affords evidence of thy greatness, the glory and the benignity of thy character. Thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they were created. The heavens are thine; the earth also is thine; we ourselves are thy offspring, and we rejoice that we may address thee as our Father.

Our natural and moral powers, and all our means of happiness and improvement, are the effects of thy paternal kindness. Thou carest for all; thou blessest all. It is owing to thy protection and favor, that we behold this day, with the advantages and pleasures which accompany it. And now that we are assembled here for the acquisition of knowledge, we would commit ourselves. to the direction of thy good providence. We pray for thy continued support and guidance. May we feel, as we ought, our dependence on thee; our constant and increasing obligations. May we remember that thine eye is never for a moment withdrawn from us; that thou art intimately acquainted with all that we do, with all that we say, and with all that we think. May this impression habitually influence us, and dispose us to give a right direction to all our powers.

Author of all good, let thy blessing rest upon these youths. Make them to go in the path of thy commandments. May they early acquaint themselves with thee, the God of their fathers, and have that fear of thee which is the instruction of wisdom. May they have correct sentiments of thy paternal character. Suffer them not to forget their duty to thee, who hast never forgotten to be good and merciful unto them. Suffer them not, Source of all good influences, to misuse their time, or to abuse their talents, by indulging in negligence, or in vicious and irregular
