3 Lord, how long shall the creation
Groan and travail sore in pain;
Waiting for its sure salvation,
When Thou shalt in glory reign,
And like Eden,

This sad earth shall bloom again?

4 Gather, too, Thy chosen nation,
Israel's long afflicted race;
Let them find Thy free salvation,
Own and trust Thy wondrous grace,
And adoring,

Look on Thy once marrèd face.

5 Reign, O reign, Almighty Saviour !
Heaven and earth in one unite;
Make it known, that in Thy favour,
There alone is life and light:
When we see Thee,
We shall have unmix'à delight.

87.-7, 6.

1 O LORD! Who now art seated
Above the heavens on high,
(The gracious work completed,
For which Thou cam'st to die);
To Thee our hearts are lifted,
While pilgrims wandering here,
For Thou alone art gifted
Our every weight to bear.

2 We know that Thou hast bought us,
And wash'd us in Thy blood;
We know Thy grace has brought us
As kings and priests to God.
We know that soon the morning
Long look'd-for hasteneth near,
When we, at Thy returning,
In glory shall appear.

SECOND PART.

1 O LORD, Thy love's unbounded!
So full, so vast, so free!
Our thoughts are all confounded
Whene'er we think of Thee:
For us Thou cam'st from heaven,
For us to bleed and die;
That purchased and forgiven,
We might ascend on High.

2 O let this love constrain us
To give our hearts to Thee:
Let nothing henceforth pain us,
But that which paineth Thee.
Our joy, our one endeavour-
Through suffering, conflict, shame—
To serve Thee, gracious Saviour,
And magnify Thy name.

88.-8, 8, 6.

1 HARK! how the blood-bought hosts above
Conspire to chaunt the Saviour's love,
In sweet harmonious strains!
And while they strike their golden lyres,
This glorious theme each bosom fires,
That Grace triumphant reigns!

2 We'll join the song! for we can tell
How sov'reign grace dissolved the spell
That kept us bound in chains;
And from that dear and happy day,
How oft, by grace constrain'd to say
That Grace triumphant reigns!

3 For though we 've stray'd like saints of old, Grace has restored us to the fold,

As captives in its chains;

Thus, saved by grace, we'd gladly sing, Till all the Heavens and earth should ring With "Grace triumphant reigns!”

4 Grace still,-till all redeem'd by blood
Are taught to know themselves and God,-
Its empire shall maintain ;

To spoil the mighty of the prey,
And set the captive exile free,
Shall Grace triumphant reign!

5 Then,—call'd to meet the church's Head,
The Saviour's grace shall banish dread,
His love our souls sustain ;
And, as we rise to endless day,
We'll raise the voice, and boldly say,
Grace doth triumphant reign!

89.-L. M.

1 JESUS, Thou glorious Priest and King, Accept the tribute which we bring; Accept each feeble song of praise, Which here on earth Thy saints may raise. 2 May every minute as it flies,

Increase our love, improve our joys; Till we are brought to sing Thy name At the great supper of the Lamb. 3 0 that the months would roll away, And quickly bring the marriage-day; When Thou the Lamb shalt take Thy throne, And fully there the Church shalt own.

4 The gladness of that happy day,

In this sad world 's our strength and stay-Then let not Faith forsake its hold,

Lest comfort sink, and love grow cold.

1 How sweet the name of Jesus sounds

In a believer's ear!

It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds, And drives away his fear.

2 It makes the wounded spirit whole,
And calms the troubled breast;
'Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary rest.

3 Dear name! the rock on which I build;
My shield and hiding-place;
My never-failing treasury, fill'd
With boundless stores of grace.

4 Jesus, my Shepherd, Saviour, Friend,
My Prophet, Priest, and King;
My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,
Accept the praise I bring.

5 Weak is the effort of my heart,
And cold my warmest thought;
But when I see Thee as Thou art,
I'll praise Thee as I ought.

6 Till then I would Thy love proclaim
With every fleeting breath;
And triumph in that blessèd name
Which quells the power of Death,

91.-L. M.

1 JESUS, the Christ! eternal Word!
Of all creation Sovereign Lord!
On Thee alone, by faith we rest,
And lean our weakness on Thy breast.
