327.

1 JESUS! the very thought of Thee
With sweetness fills the breast,
But sweeter far thy face to see,
And in thy presence rest.

2 When once Thou visitest the heart,
Then truth begins to shine,
Then earthly vanities depart,
Then kindles love divine.

3 May every heart confess thy name,
And ever Thee adore;

And seeking Thee, itself inflame,
To seek Thee more and more!

4 Thee may our tongues for ever bless,
Thee may we love alone,
And ever in our lives express
The image of thine own!

328.-C M.

1 No voice can sing, no heart can frame, Nor can the memory find,

A sweeter sound than thy blest name,
Thou Saviour of mankind'!

2 O hope of every contrite heart,
O joy of all the meek,

To those who fall how kind Thou art,
How good to those who seek!

3 But what to those who find? Ah, this
Nor tongue, nor pen can shew;
Thy love, Lord Jesus! what it is,
None but thy loved ones know.

4 Then, Lord, our only joy be Thou,
As Thou our prize wilt be,
To Thee be all the glory now
And through eternity.

THE LATTER-DAY GLORY.

1 ANGELS holy,

High and lowly,

Sing the praises of the Lord!
Earth and sky, all living nature,
Man, the stamp of thy Creator,
Praise ye, praise ye God the Lord!

Sun and moon bright,

Night and noon-light,

Starry temples, azure-floor'd,

Calm and storm, and wild wind's madness,

Sons of God, that shout for gladness,

Praise ye, praise ye God the Lord!

Rolling thunder,

Voice of wonder,

Deepest bass in heavenly chord,
Vivid lightnings fiercely gleaming,
Bulging clouds with waters streaming
Praise ye, praise ye God the Lord

Ocean hoary,
Tell his glory,

Cliffs where foaming seas have roar'd,
Pulse of water blithely beating,
Wave advancing, wave retreating,
Praise ye, praise ye God the Lord!
Rock and high land,

Wood and island,

Crag where eagle's pride hath soar'd,
Mighty mountain, purple-breasted,
Peaks cloud-cleaving, snowy-crested,
Praise ye, praise ye God the Lord!
Rolling river,

Praise him ever,

From the mountain's deep vein pour'd;
Silver fountain clearly gushing,
Headlong torrent madly rushing,
Praise ye, praise ye God the Lord.
Birds whose pinion

Gives dominion

In sky regions deep and broad;
Flocks that stray o'er hills unbounded,
Herds with perfumed feasts surrounded,
Praise ye, praise ye God the Lord.

Youth whose morning
Smiles at warning,

Age in counsels deeply stored,
Maids and boys, in chorus blending,
Let your anthem-song ascending,
Praise high heaven's eternal Lord!

Bond and free-man,

Land and sea-man,

Earth with peoples widely stored,
Huntsman lone in prairies ample,
Full-voiced choir in stately temple,
Praise ye, praise ye God the Lord!
Kings anointed,

God appointed,

Sceptered by the sovereign Lord,
Tribes and golden realms possessing,
Throned in grandeur, power, and blessing,
Praise your Ruler, God the Lord!

Spread the story

Of his glory,

Ye who fiercely scorn'd his word;
Israel! once that outcast nation,
Now illustrious in salvation,
Praise your Kinsman, King, and Lord!
Praise Him ever,

Bounteous Giver,

Praise Him, Father, Friend, and Lord;
Each glad soul its free course winging,
Each blithe voice its free song singing,
Praise the great, the mighty Lord!

MEDITATION.

330.-7s.

"Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples."
John xviii. 2.

1 JESUS, while He dwelt below,
As divine historians say,
To a place would often go;
Near to Kedron's brook it lay:
In this place He loved to be,
And 'twas named Gethsemane.

2 "Twas a garden, as we read,
At the foot of Olivet;

Low, and proper to be made,
The Redeemer's lone retreat.
When from noise He would be free,
Then He sought Gethsemane.

3 Thither, by their Master brought,
His disciples likewise came;

There the heavenly truths He taught
Often set their hearts on flame.
Therefore they, as well as He

Visited Gethsemane.
