3 In thee I read my title clear

To mansions that will ne'er decay;
My Lord! O when will He appear,
And bear his prisoner far away!
4 Then shall I need thy light no more,

For nothing shall be then conceal'd; When I have reach'd the heavenly shore,

The Lord himself will stand reveal'd. 5 When midst the throng celestial placed, The bright Original I see,

From which thy sacred page was traced, Sweet book! I've no more need of thee. 386.-C M.

1 THE Spirit breathes upon the word,
And brings the truth to sight;
Precepts and promises afford
A sanctifying light.

2 A glory gilds the sacred page,
Majestic, like the sun;

It gives a light to ev'ry age,

It gives, but borrows none.

3 The hand that gave thee, still supplies
The gracious light and heat:
His truths upon the nations rise,
They rise, but never set.

4 Let everlasting thanks be thine,
For such a bright display,

As makes a world of darkness shine.
With beams of heavenly day.

5 My soul rejoices to pursue
The steps of Him I love,
Till glory breaks upon my view,
In brighter worlds above.

387.-C. M.

1 JESUS, Thou Source of true delight,
Whom we unseen adore,
Unveil our souls to all Thy light,
That we may love Thee more.

2 Thy glory o'er creation shines
But in the sacred word,
We read in fairer, brighter lines,
The glories of our Lord.

3 'Tis here, whene'er our comforts droop, And sins and sorrows rise,

Thy love with cheerful beams of hope
Each fainting heart supplies.

4 Jesus, our Lord, our Life, our Light,
O come with blissful ray :

Break through the gloomy shades of night.
And bring the look'd-for day.

5 Then shall each soul with rapture trace
The wonders of Thy love;
And the full glories of Thy face,
Are known to those above.

388.-C. M.

1 How precious is the book Divine,
By inspiration given !

As a bright lamp its doctrines shine,
To guide our souls to heaven.

2 It sweetly cheers our drooping hearts
In this dark vale of tears;
Life, light, and joy it still imparts,
And quells our rising fears.

3 This lamp, through all the tedious night
Of life, shall guide our way:
"Till we behold the clearer light,
Of an eternal day.

MISSIONARY.

1 FROM Greenland's icy mountains,
From India's coral strand,
Where Afric's sunny fountains
Roll down their golden sand;
From many an ancient river,
From many a palmy plain,
They call us to deliver

Their land from error's chain.

2 What though the spicy breezes
Blow soft on Ceylon's isle,-
Though every prospect pleases,
And only man is vile?

In vain, with lavish kindness,
The gifts of God are strown ;
The heathen in his blindness,

Bows down to wood and stone.

3 Shall we, whose souls are lighted
With wisdom from on high,-
Shall we to man benighted
The lamp of life deny?
Salvation! Oh, salvation!
The joyful sound proclaim.
Till each remotest nation
Has learnt Messiah's name.

4 Waft, waft, ye winds, His story,
And you, ye waters, roll,
Till, like a sea of glory,

It spreads from pole to pole:
Till o'er our ransom'd nature
The Lamb, for sinners slain,
Redeemer, King, Creator,
In bliss returns to reign.

1 THE heathen perish: day by day Thousands on thousands pass away. O Christians, to their rescue fly, Preach Jesus to them ere they die.

2 Wealth, labour, talents, freely give, Yea life, if they may also live;

What hath your Saviour done for you?
And now your all to Him is due.

3 Voice of the Mighty Lord, go forth,
Call in the south, wake up the north,
Of every clime, from sun to sun,
Gather God's children into one.

391.-8, 7, 4.

These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.-Ps. cvii. 24.

1 SPEED thy servants, Saviour, speed them, Thou art Lord of wind and waves;

They were bound, but thou hast freed them,
Now they go to free the slaves;
Be Thou with them:

"Tis thine arm alone that saves.

2 Friends, and home, and all forsaking,
Lord, they go at thy command;
As their stay thy promise taking,
While they traverse sea and land;
O be with them!

Lead them safely by the hand.
