Wednesday Morning.

GOD, who art very pitiful and of tender mercy; who regardest the poor, upliftest the downcast, and art kind even to the unthankful and the evil; dispose us heartily to acknowledge Thy goodness, and trustfully to commit ourselves to Thy care.

Enter not into judgment with Thy servants for those unnumbered shortcomings and sins, whereby we have grievously provoked Thee to hide Thy face and withdraw Thy mercies from us. Bestow upon us, for Christ's sake, Thy forgiveness. Continue to us, notwithstanding our unworthiness, the bounties of Thy providence, and the riches of Thy grace; and teach us to show our gratitude for Thy benefits, not only by the praises of our lips, but by the devoted obedience of our lives.

Help us, in imitation of Thy goodness, to be loving, generous, and compassionate towards our fellow-men. Deliver us from all selfish affections, and from all malignant and uncharitable dispositions. Suffer us not to despise any for their low estate, or to hate any for their injurious conduct, or to judge harshly of any for their infirmities and errors; but make us kindly affectioned toward all, bearing their burdens, ministering to their wants, pitying their distresses, forgiving their provocations, and doing them good as we have opportunity.

Specially grant that our love may be increased toward those that are of the household of faith. Teach us to delight in them as the excellent ones of the earth; to deal kindly with them, because Thou hast a favour to them; to honour and esteem them as bearing Thine image; and heartily to love them as those whom the

Saviour loves, and whom He requires us to love for His sake.

Graciously hear us, O God, while we plead with Thee for all whom we ought to remember at the throne of grace. Bless our friends; reward our benefactors; forgive our enemies, and enable us from the heart to forgive them. Provide for the necessities of the poor. Impart relief and comfort to the afflicted. Incline those that are rich in this world to be ready to distribute and willing to communicate; and those who are strong to bear the infirmities of the weak. Look with favour on the rising generation; and satisfy them early with Thy mercy, that they may rejoice and be glad all their days. Lift up those who are bowed down with age; and though their outward man perish, let their inward man be renewed day by day. Unite all Christians in the bonds of a common faith, and dispose them to love one another out of a pure heart fervently. Have mercy on all men; reclaim them from their errors; save them from their miseries; cleanse them from their sins; and bring them to the faith and obedience of the Gospel.

And now, O our God, we commit ourselves to Thee. Aid us this day in our several occupations. Teach us, in our intercourse with our brethren, to walk in love as Christ also loved us. And whatsoever we would that men should do unto us, help us to do even so to them.

Grant these requests, O Father, we beseech Thee, and all other things which Thou knowest to be needful for us, through Jesus Christ, our Saviour.-Amen.

Wednesday Evening.

LMIGHTY GOD, who alone canst quiet and comfort the hearts of them that seek Thee, incline Thine ear to the voice of our supplications, and grant unto us an answer of peace. Although we have grievously provoked Thee to be angry with us, and can do nothing to appease Thy just displeasure, yet do we beseech Thee, for the sake of Thy beloved Son, on whom was laid the chastisement of our peace, to show Thy mercy upon us, and freely to forgive our manifold offences. Let not the thought of Thy wrath and the terror of Thy judgments distract or overwhelm us. Save us also from the perilous delusion of seeking peace in forgetting or forsaking Thee. Cause us to hear the voice of the Redeemer inviting the heavy-laden to come to Him, that they may find rest unto their souls. Enable us to flee for refuge to the hope set before us in the Gospel, so that we may have strong consolation. And grant that, being justified by faith, we may have peace with Thee through our Lord Jesus Christ, and may ever joy in Thee through Him by whom we have received the atonement.

Lead us also, by the guidance of Thy Holy Spirit, to walk in the ways of Thy commandments, and cause us to delight in them as ways of pleasantness and paths of peace. Deliver us from anxious cares, unruly passions, and covetous affections, whereby our hearts might be disquieted within us. And teach us, in all outward troubles which may assail us, to look up to Thee as our very present help, and to rest with unfaltering trust in Thy promise, that Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee.

And now, O God, we humbly commit ourselves, and all whom we love, to Thy fatherly protection. Pardon all the sins of the past day, and give us grace that we may heartily repent of them. Grant us quiet sleep, and wake us on the morrow with renewed strength for the duties which await us.

Bestow, we pray Thee, the consolations of Thy grace on all who are in adversity or affliction. Impart the joy of Thy salvation to those who are in bitterness for their sins. Speak peace to them that are afar off, and bring them nigh, through the blood of Christ.

Graciously hear our humble supplications. And let the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep our hearts and minds, through Jesus Christ; to whom, with Thee and with the Holy Spirit, be glory everlasting. -Amen.

Thursday Morning.

LMIGHTY GOD, who hast made the light of another day to shine upon us, we give Thee thanks for that better light of Thy glorious Gospel, wherewith Thou hast visited us, to enlighten them that were sitting in the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Help us, we beseech Thee, as children of the day, to renounce the hidden things of dishonesty, and to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness. And enable us, by walking before Thee in all holy conversation and godliness, to adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour, and to be faithful followers of Thy Son, whom Thou hast sent to be the Light of the world.

O God, who hast not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him; give us grace that we may be conformed to Him in all the virtues of His holy and blessed life, so that, by now resembling Him on earth, we may be prepared for dwelling with Him in heaven. Make us willing to take His yoke upon us, and to learn of Him who was meek and lowly in heart. And teach us, after His example, to walk in love; to go about doing good; to bear patiently all manner of evil and injurious treatment, to which we may be subjected in Thy service; and to show that our meat is to do Thy will and finish Thy work.

Pardon, O Lord, our manifold shortcomings in these things during the time that is past. Help us for the future more earnestly to look unto Jesus, that we may be
