Thursday Morning.

LORD our God, who art not far from any one of us, and hast taught us to look to Thee as our very present help, we cast ourselves on Thy fatherly care, and humbly beseech Thee to supply all our need, according to Thy riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Make us thankful for the rest of the past night, and for the returning light and blessings of another day. And now that Thou art calling us to resume our daily work, impress us with a sense of our dependence on Thee, and teach us faithfully to acknowledge Thee in all our ways.

Keep us ever mindful, O God, that it is our first duty to glorify and serve Thee. Cause us to feel how much we owe to Thee, as our Creator, Preserver, Benefactor, and Redeemer. Fill our hearts with such love to Thee, that nothing may seem too hard for us to do or to suffer in obedience to Thy will. And whether we eat or drink, or whatsoever we do, enable us to do all to Thy glory.

Teach us, while ever walking in Thy fear, to be just and righteous in our dealings with our brethren. Suffer us not to beguile any with deceitful words, or to injure any by wrongful or oppressive actions. Grant that integrity and uprightness may preserve us from seeking at any time the advancement of our own interests, or the relief of our own necessities, by trespassing on the rights of others. Let it be our hearty desire to render unto all their dues, and our earnest endeavour to be faithful in that which is least, as well as in that which is greatest. And let our rejoicing be the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly

wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have our conversation in the world.

O God, who knowest how prone we are to abuse Thy bounties to our own hurt and Thy dishonour, give us grace that we may so use the good things, which Thou hast provided for the sustenance of the body, that they may not in any wise be hurtful to the soul. Restrain us from all intemperance or excess. Enable us to be sober and vigilant, that we may keep under the body and bring it into subjection. Help us to repress all inordinate desires for the riches, honours, and pleasures of this life. And suffer us not to be forgetful of Thy solemn warning, that if we live after the flesh we shall die, but if, through the Spirit, we mortify the deeds of the body, we shall live.

Holy Father, we acknowledge that in time past we have failed to render the homage that is due to Thee; and that in many things we have come far short of the duties we owe to our fellow-creatures and to ourselves. Forgive us freely through the merits of Thy beloved Son. And give us grace, that henceforth we may be enabled to deny ourselves to all ungodliness and worldly lusts, and to lead a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of Thy holy name.

Let Thy presence go with us this day to our appointed duties; and let Thy grace in all things be sufficient for

us.

Hear our intercessions, we beseech Thee, for all whom we ought to remember at Thy throne of grace.

We commend to Thy favour our relatives and friends. Grant that they may prosper in all things, and be in health; above all, that their souls may prosper. Reward with Thy bounty all that have done us good. Pardon and convert all that have done or wished us evil; and enable us to forgive them from the heart.

[Bestow Thy blessing on the children of this family. Keep them from the snares and dangers of an evil world; and cause them to grow in knowledge and in grace. Regard with Thy favour the servants of this household; and enable them, in their appointed station, faithfully to serve and honour Thee, their Master in heaven.]

Bless and long preserve our Sovereign.

Prosper all

the interests of our country. Hasten the prevalence of Thy kingdom among all nations.

God of all comfort, have pity on the afflicted. Assuage their griefs; relieve their sufferings; and overrule Thy chastening for their good. Have mercy on those who are drawing near to death. Let Thy grace sustain them when heart and flesh are failing. And when they are absent from the body, grant that they may be present with the Lord.

Graciously hear and answer us, O God, according to Thy promises made to us in Christ Jesus, to whom, with Thee and with the Holy Spirit, be glory everlasting.-Amen.

Thursday Evening.

LMIGHTY GOD, who by Thy wise providence

A hast ordered all the circumstances of our lot, and

crowned us with unmerited loving-kindnesses, dispose us thankfully to acknowledge Thy goodness, and humbly to submit ourselves to Thy will.

Enter not into judgment with Thy servants for the frowardness, impatience, and discontentment, wherewith we have at any time rebelled against Thee. Pardon, for Christ's sake, wherein we have offended Thee by covetous affections or repining dispositions. And give us grace, that henceforth we may be enabled to yield ourselves up entirely to Thy disposal, and with unquestioning meekness to acquiesce in the wisdom, righteousness, and goodness of Thy dealings with us.

Convince us that we are not worthy of the least of all Thy mercies, and that we have no cause to murmur, when Thy gracious gifts are denied us or withdrawn from us. Teach us to be still, and to know that Thou art God, acknowledging Thy right to do with us as seemeth good in Thy sight. Prepare us to receive evil, as well as good, at Thy hand, in the confident persuasion that Thou chastenest us, not for Thy pleasure, but for our profit, that we may be partakers of Thy holiness. And enable us to possess our souls in patience, amidst the trials and troubles of our present condition, believing that our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

Heavenly Father, who in Thy wisdom knowest what portion of earthly good is expedient for us, teach us, in whatsoever state we are, therewith to be content. Make

us to consider that the happiness of a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesses, but that godliness with contentment is great gain. Teach us to count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom Thou hast blessed us with all spiritual and heavenly blessings. And satisfy our souls with His divine fulness, so that, whatever adversities befall us, we may be enabled cheerfully to submit to them; as troubled, yet not distressed; as perplexed, but not in despair; as cast down, but not destroyed; as sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

And now, O God, we commit ourselves to Thee, who hast said that Thou wilt never leave us nor forsake us. Watch over us this night; deliver us from evil; and grant us quiet sleep under the shadow of Thy wings.

Regard with Thy favour our family and kindred, our friends and neighbours, and all who are connected with us. Think upon them for good, and visit them with Thy salvation.

Extend Thy help and pity to the afflicted. And strengthen them with might, according to Thy glorious power, unto all patience and long-suffering with joyful

ness.

Reveal Thy marvellous light to those who are in darkness. And increase everywhere the number of Thy people, who know Thy name, and put their trust in Thee.

Graciously hear our supplications, which we offer in the name of Thy beloved Son, our Lord and Saviour.— Amen.
