[Regard with Thy favour the children of this family. Keep them from the evil that is in the world, and cause them to grow in knowledge and in grace. Enable the servants of this household to honour Thee by a faithful discharge of the duties of their station. And grant that their appointed work may be dignified and sweetened to them, by the thought that in all things they are serving the Lord Christ, from whom they shall receive the reward of the inheritance.]

Give, we beseech Thee, to all Thine afflicted people the supports and consolations of Thy grace. Relieve the sick. Comfort the sorrowful. Supply the wants of the needy. Dispel the fears of the dying, and prepare them for their change.

Be gracious to all of us according to our need. Take us this night under Thy protection. Fulfil to us Thy promise, that Thou wilt never leave nor forsake Thy people. Guide us by Thy counsel while we live, and afterward receive us into glory, through Jesus Christ, in whose name we present our prayers, and to whom, with Thee and with the Holy Spirit, we ascribe all praise and glory, for evermore.—Amen.

Monday Morning.

ATHER of mercies, who hast strengthened and refreshed us by the rest of the past Sabbath and the sleep of the past night, and art now calling us, in the morning of another day, to go forth anew to our ordinary occupations; we render praise to Thee for Thy goodness, and humbly implore the continuance of Thy favour.

Give us grace, that we may walk worthy of Thee unto all pleasing, not only in the observance of Thine ordinances, but in the concerns and business of our daily life. And grant that, throughout the labours of the week, a healthful influence may be exerted on us by the lessons of Thy Word and the solemnities of Thy worship. Suffer us not to esteem any station too humble, or any occupation too common, to furnish opportunities of glorifying Thy name. Keep us mindful that Thou art calling us to serve Thee in whatsoever place Thy providence hath assigned to us. And make us faithful in that which is least, as well as in that which is greatest.

Pardon, O Lord, our proneness to forget Thee amidst the pursuits and engagements of the world. Strengthen us to withstand the temptations that surround us; guard us against the deceitfulness of our own hearts; and enable us, by the grace of Thy Holy Spirit, to acknowledge Thee in all our ways.

Let Thy presence go with us this day to our appointed labours. Make us upright in the discharge of every trust, diligent in the performance of every duty, patient and meek in the endurance of every trial, and steadfast

in the resistance of every temptation. Keep us mindful that we are answerable to Thee for the right use of all the faculties, talents, and opportunities of doing good which Thou hast given us. And whatsoever our hand findeth to do, dispose us to do it with our might; not with eye-service as pleasing men, but with singleness of heart as unto Thee.

Be gracious, we beseech Thee, to our relatives and friends. Remember them for good, and visit them with Thy salvation.

Impart relief and comfort to the afflicted. Provide for the poor. Reclaim the erring. Enlighten those who are perishing for lack of knowledge. And speedily diffuse Thy Gospel throughout the world.

Graciously hear us, O God, and have mercy upon us, through Jesus Christ, our Saviour.-Amen.

Monday Evening.

THOU that hearest prayer, unto Thee shall all flesh come. Bow down Thine ear, O Lord; hear us, for we are poor and needy. Rejoice the souls of Thy servants, for unto Thee do we lift up our souls. For Thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive, and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon Thee.

O Thou Holy One, with whom evil cannot dwell, we acknowledge and confess before Thee our manifold sins, which in thought, word, and deed, we have oftentimes committed against Thee. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way. We have walked in the sight of our own eyes, and have followed the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have slighted Thy counsels, abused Thy mercies, distrusted Thy promises, and broken Thy commandments. And there is not a day of our lives, in which we do not neglect many known duties, and commit many inexcusable offences.

Enter not, O Lord, into judgment with Thy servants, for in Thy sight shall no man living be justified. But let it please Thee, through the merits of Thy beloved Son, who bore our sins in His own body on the tree, to receive us graciously and love us freely.

[Blot out the memory, we beseech Thee, of all the dishonour we have done to Thy law,-of all the despite we have done to Thy grace,-of all the ungrateful returns we have made for Thy goodness,-of all the selfishaess, worldliness, and ungodliness, wherewith we have at any time offended Thee. And grant unto us the blessedness of the man whose transgression is forgiven,

whose sin is covered, and unto whom Thou imputest not iniquity.]

Gracious God, who desirest not sacrifice, and hast no delight in burnt-offering, but who dost not despise a broken and contrite heart, pour out upon us the grace of Thy Holy Spirit, that we may mourn and be in bitterness because of our trespasses whereby we have trespassed against Thee. And grant that our sorrow may be of that godly sort, which worketh repentance unto salvation not to be repented of. Forbid that we should mock Thee and deceive ourselves, by confessing and lamenting our sins, while we yet cleave to them. Enable us to bring forth fruits meet for repentance. Dispose us to hate and shun every false way, to mortify all sinful inclinations, to resist and subdue all evil habits, and to be ready to every good work. And forasmuch as Thou knowest with how many and how great temptations we are encompassed on every side, and how unable we are to withstand them in our own strength, we pray Thee to uphold us by Thy might, and to make Thy grace sufficient for us, so that we may in all things be more than conquerors, and may in the end obtain the inheritance which Thou hast promised to him that overcometh.

Hear our intercessions, O God, in behalf of all whom Thou hast visited with affliction. Grant them support and comfort in their trials. And let Thy chastening, though for the present grievous, yield in them afterward the peaceable fruits of righteousness.

We more especially commend to Thee all those who are in sorrow and heaviness for their sins. Give them, we beseech Thee, true repentance towards God, and faith unfeigned towards the Lord Jesus Christ. Visit them with the joy of Thy salvation, and uphold them with Thy free Spirit.
