HYMN,

WRITTEN FOR THE USE OF CHILDREN,

By the Rev. John Black.

1 Hast thou beheld

glorious sun,

Through all
At rising morn, closing day,

skies his circuit run,

And when he beam'd his noontide

Shed lustre o'er the face of night?

4 Hast

e'er wander'd o'er the plain,
And view'd the fields and waving
The flowery mead, leafy grove,
Where all harmony love.
5 Hast thou e'er trod the sandy
And the restless ocean roar,
When rous'd by some tremendous
Its billows rose dreadful form?

Hast thou e'er

biting hail;

The sleeting shower,

The water bound icy chains?

Or wanton in the sunny

INDEX.

ADAM and EVE in Eden liv'd,

A light our darken'd steps to guide,

Behold my eyes the morning sun,

Come, child, look upwards to the sky,
Christ is merciful and mild,

Come, children, hail the Prince of Peace,
Come, children, let us Jesus praise,

Death, that awful solemn word,
Death has been here and borne away,
Fear was within, the tossing bark,
Forget to pray! that's strange indeed,

God made the sky that looks so blue,.
God is in heaven-can he hear,
Great God! and wilt thou be so kind,
Glory to thee, my God, this night,
God our Father, great Creator!

Hark, the skies with music sound,
How long sometimes a day appears,
Heaven must be a happy place,
Heavenly Father! grant thy blessing,
Holy Bible! book divine!.

I love the Sabbath morn to come,
I thank the goodness and the grace,
I will be even with my bitterest foe,
Jesus, thou heavenly Stranger!
Little children, all tell me,.
Little children, love each other,
Lord! with redeeming mercy blest,
Lord, teach a little child to pray,
Lord, teach us how to pray,

Lord, I would own thy tender care,
Let avarice from shore to shore, .
Lord, are the ravens daily fed by thee,
Lord, dismiss us with thy blessing,

Mortal, beware, improve the present hour,
May I a little pilgrim be,

My days on earth how swift they run,
My Father, my Mother I know,

O that it were my chief delight,
Our Father God, who art in heav'n,.
Often tolls the solemn bell,
O'tis a lovely thing for youth,.

See another year is come!

The hour is come, I will not stay,
This is the way to know the Lord,
That Jesus hears when sinners pray,
Through all the dangers of the night,
To-day is added to our time,
Though I am young I have a soul,
This is the day when Christ arose,
This day belongs to God alone,
'Tis a precious Book indeed,
To God the Father, God the Son,.
Unmindful of God's holy word,
What is it shows my soul the way,
What is it looks so very bright,
When by the brook Elijah liv'd,
When Jesus left his heav'nly throne,
We, Lord, thy children are, .

Where should I be if God should say,
What book ought I to love the best,
Whither but to thee, O Lord,
Who comes to Infant School each day,
Why did Christ my Lord appear, .
