The Epistle. 1 St John iii. 1.
Ehold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed

upon us, that we should be called the fons of God : therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet af pear what we shall be: but we know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him ; for we shall see him as he is. . And every inan that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. Whosoever committech fin, tranfgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our fins; and in him is no sin: Whosoever abideth in him, finneth not : whosoever finneth, hath not seen him, neither known him, Little children, let no man deceive you : he that doeth righteousness, is righteous even as he is righteous. He that committerh sin, is of the devil : for the devil finneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifefted, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Wherefore, if they shall fay unto you, Behold, he is in the desart, go not forth : behold, he is in the secret chambers, believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west : so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For whereswever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. Immediately after the tribulation of those days, shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven : and the powers of the heavens shall be Thaken. And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

The Gospel. St Matt. xx. I. \HE Kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an

housholder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the third hour, and law others standing idle in the market-place, and said unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. Again he went out about the sixth and ninch hour, and did likewise. And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others ftanding idle, and faith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us.

He faith unto them, Go ye also into the vine. yard, and whatsoever is right that shall ye receive. So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard faith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. But when the first came, they supposed that they shoulú have received more ; and they likewile received every man a penny. And when they had received it, they murmured against the good-man of the house, saying, Theie Jast have wrought but one hour, and thou haft' made them Equal unto us which have borne che burden and beat of the day. But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong : didît not thou agree with me for a penny ? Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee. Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil because I am good ? So the last shall be first, and the first laft: for many bę called, but few cholen.
