PA RA P H R Å SE. 4. To these we have added many actual transgremions of thy holy laws, which we were so striály bound to observe.
5: We morcover acknowledge ourselves to have been guilty of vario!'s kinds of actual fins, being chargeable with many sins of omiffion, by neglecting the several duties commanded us.
6. And many sins of commission, by wilfully doing what we were exprefly forbid, so that every part of our souls is infected with fin, and they are, as it were, attacked with an universal disease, (for we can hope for no health
salvation from ourselves.) '7. We therefore have recourse to thy goodness, O God, for a deliverance from this load of our fins, and, after the example of the penitent publican, intreat thee to be merciful to us finners.
8. Remit therefore, we pray thee, the punishment due to our fins, upon our confession of and sincere repentance for them.
9. And, upon our being truly penitent, restore us to the place which we formerly held in thy favour, and which, by our disobedience, we have forfeited, let us partake of the benefits of thine elect saints, from whole priviledges unrepenting finners are excluded.
10. According to the promises thou hast made us in the charter of the gospel delivered to us by Jesus Christ.
11. We therefore helee:h thee, () gracious God, not for the sake of any faint or angel, but for the sake of thy beloved Son, in whose name, when we ask any thing, thou bait promised to give it, (John xvi. 23.) to afford us such a powerful af:itance of the grace of thy holy Spirit, that, for the future, we muy panctually discharge all the parts of cir christian duty: that we may live a godly life, by paying a devout worr ship to the Almighty: that we may live righteously, in doing all acts of charity and juftice to our neighbour: and loberly, in performing all the duties of temperance, chaitiiy, and other virtu:s which are centered in ourselves : nor do we ask this to reflect any honour upon ourselves, or to acquire any merit by such a religious life, but only that the greater glory

who defireth not the death of a sinner, but rather that he may turn from his wickedness, and live; and hath given power and commandment to his Ministers, to declare and pronounce to his people, being penitent, the Absolution and Remission of their sins : He pardoneth and abfolveth all them that truly repent, and unfeignedly believe his holy Gospel. 2. Wherefore let us beseech him to grant us true repentance, and his Holy Spirit ; that those things may please him, which we do at this present, and that the reft of our life hereafter may be pure and holy; fo that at the last we may come to his eternal joy, through Jesus Chrilt our Lord. Amen.
PA RA P H R AS E may be ascribed to thy goodness, whereby we expect to have thofe dispofxicos and habits wrought in us.
1. The omnipotent God, who is poffered of the sole power over all things, both in beaven and earth, and who does not desire that any finner hould perilh everlastingly, (Ezek. xviii. 28.) but rather, that repenting of his hins, he should obtain everlasting happiness; for which end he has empowered and commanded the ministers of the gospel, (Matt. xviii. 18. Zobw xx. 33.) to declare remillion of fins, to those who are truly peniceut: be therefore, by the mouth of his minifter, pronounceth pardon and absolution to every one of you, that is duly qualified for it; in order to obtain this, he requires of you a true repentance of your fins, and a sinrere belief of his holy gospel. Mark. xy. Aets xx, 21.
2. To the end therefore that we may obtain the benefit of this holy or, dinance, let us pray to God, from whom cometh every good and perfect gift, to afford us the grace of true repentance ; and at the fame time the alliance of his Holy Spirit ; for nothing but the illumination of this blefled Spirit, which helps our infirmities, can' render our devotion acceptable unto him. The afiftanre of his Holy Spirit is like vise necessary, to prevent as from returning again to our fins, and to make our fouls, which have formerly been polluted with many vices, shine with that parity and holiness which are required of us by the gospel : so that, when the bour of death approaches, we may hope to enter into the joy of the Father, thro' the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our blesfed Saviour and Redeemer.
Then the Minister shall kneel, and say the Lord's Prayer; the People also
kneeling, and repeating it with bim. UR Father, which art in heaven; Hallowed be thy
Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespases, as we forgive them that trefpass against us. And lead us not into temptation ; but deliver us from evil: For chine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Answ. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.
Priest. Praise ye the Lord.
PA RA PHRASE. Priest. O God, to whom we owe the gift of utterance, (Exod. vi. 11. Prov. xvi.) affift us in our devotion by the influence of thy Holy Spirit.
Answ. And then we fhall utter forth thy praises as we ought to do. Prieft. Afford us speedily thy allistance, in order to further us in all things necessary to our salvation
Answ. And do not refuse us any thing that may contribute to forward us in that most important of all our concerns.
Prirft. May all glory be ascribed to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost, the three persons of the ever-bieled trinity.
Answ. As they have from all eternity exifted in ever glorious felicity, and still exist in glory, and will to all eternity.
Prieft. Sing to God hallelujah.
Toen fball be said or sung the Psalms in order as they are appointed.' There a Leffon of the Old Testament, as is appointed: and after that, Magnificat for the Song of the blessed Virgin Mary) in English, as followeth,
Magnificat. St. Luke 1. 46.
rejoiced in God my Saviour. 2. For he hath regarded: the lowliness of his hand-maiden.
3. For behold, from henceforth : all generations shall call me blefied.
4. For he that is mighty hath magnified me: and holy is his Name.
5. And his mercy is on them that fear him : throughout all generations.
6. He hath Shewed strength with his arm : he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

PA RA P H R AS E. 1. My foul doth praise the Lord, and gratefully rejoices in God who has afforded me his protection in my helplets condition, and conferred to many favours upon me.
2. For he has condescended so far, as to thew the highest regard to his poor maid-fervant, notwithstanding all the meanness of her condition.
3. For fince he has been gracioudy pleased to indulge me, in so extra. ordinary a manner, no one can reproach me with the meanness of my ciscumftances, but all succeeding generations shall look upon me as the happieft of mortals.
4. For the Almighty has exalted me to the highest honour, wherefore I fall glorify his holy Name for ever.
s. Not meerly for this honour conferred upon myself, but for his mercy continued to his faithful servants, Abraham, liuas, &c. many Generations after their deatbs.
6. He, by making choice of a poor muid to bring forth the Melian into the world, has proved what his omnipotent arm or power was capable of effecting; and has quelled the proud imaginations of the hearts of those who were prepoffelled with a notion, that he was to make his entrance upon earth with fplendor and worldly pomp.
Hebas humbled those great persons who had assembled to themselves a dignity faperior to that of others, and disappointed the expectations of all the illuitrious women in ? he world, who might have expected that this horru- would have been conferred upon them; and has exalted to this exHaordinary dignity a poor and humble virgin.

He remembering his mercy, hath holpen his servant Israel: as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his feed for ever.

marvellous things. 2. With his own right hand, and with his holy arm : hath he gotten himself the victory.
3. The Lord deciared his salvation : his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.
4. He hath remenabered his mercy and truth toward the house of Israel: and all the ends of the world have seen the talvation of our God.
PA RA PHRASE. 8. He, having no respect to persons, has confidered charity more than magnificence, chusing rather to feast the poor, than feed the rich.
9. And herein he has remembered his mercy, i. e. fent relief to his distresled people (2 Cor. vi. 42.) of the Jewish nation; thereby fulfilling the everlasting promise which he made to Abrabam and his feed.
th: 1. O sing a new and extraordinary song unto the Lord, for he hath done, for the sake of his church, things which excite our wonder and amazement,
2. He has gined a victory, not by the assistance of any mortal hand, but by his owo omnipotent arm; and that, as well over our temporal as Ipiritual enemies.
3. He hath fewn forth his falvation, universally extended by the coning of the Mefliah: he has manifefted his righteousness to all the heathen world, by destroying the kingdom of darkness.
4. He hath held in remembrance the promise of the Meft::h, made to the antient Jewish patriarchs; and all the Pagan nations have seen, (which means in the prophetic phrase, fall fee) that falvation or blesling which they fall receive from Abrabam's feed. G:¥. xii. 3.
