of the power? do that which is good, and thou fhalt have praise of the fame: for he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the fword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but alfo for confcience fake. For, for this caufe pay you tribute alfo for they are Gods minifters, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues; tribute to whom tribute is due, cuftom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, honour to whom honour.

ND it came to pass, when the time was come that he fhould be received up, he stedfastly fet his face to go to Jerufalem, and fent meffengers before his face and they went and entered into a village of the Samaritans to make ready for him. And they did not receive him, beeaufe his face was as though he would go to Jerufalem. And when his difciples James and John faw this, they laid, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and confume them, even as Elias did & But he turned, and rebuked them, and faid, Ye know not what manner of fpirit ye are of: For the Son of man is not come to destroy mens lives, but to fave them. And they went to another village.

After the Creed, if there be no Sermon, shall be read one of the Six Homilies against Rebellion.

This Sentence is to be read at the Offertory:

Hatfoever would that men fhould do unto you, do ye

ye even fo to them; for this is the law and the prophets. S. Matth. vii. 12..

used:

God, whofe Name is excellent in all the earth, and thy Glory above the heavens; who on this Day didft miraculously preserve our Church and State from the secret contrivance and hellifh malice of Popish Confpirators: and on this Day alfo didft begin to give us a mighty deliverance

from the open Tyranny and Oppreffion of the fame cruel and blood-thirty enemies: We blefs and adore thy glorious Majefty, as for the former, fo for this thy late marvellous loving-kindness to our Church and Nation, in the preservation of our Religion and Liberties. And we humbly pray, that the devout fenfe of this thy repeated Mercy may renew and increase in us a fpirit of love and thankfulness to thee its only Author; a fpirit of peaceable fubmiffion and obedience to our gracious Sovereign Lord King GEORGE; and a fpirit of fervent zeal for our holy Religion, which thou haft fo wonderfully rescued, and established a bleffing to us and our pofterity. And this we beg for Jefus Chrift his fake Amen.

A FORM of PRAYER with FASTING, to be ufed yearly upon the Thirtieth of January, being the Day of the Martyrdom of the Bleffed King Charles I. to implore the Mercy of God, that neither the Guilt of that facred and innocent Blood, nor those other Sins, by which God was provoked to deliver up both us and our King into the Hands of cruel and unreasonable Men, may at any Time hereafter be vifited upon us, or our Pofterity.

If this Day fhall happen to be Sunday, this Form of Prayer shall be used, and the Faft kept the next Day following. And upon the Lord's Day next before the Day to be kept, at Morning Prayer, immediately after the Nicene Creed, Notice fhall be given for the due Obfervation of the faid Day. The Service on the Day fhall be the fame with the ufual Office for Holy-Days in all Things, except where it is in this Office otherwise appointed. The Order for MORNING PRAYER.

He that miniftereth, fhall begin with one or more of thefe Sentences:

O the Lord our God belong mercies and forgiveneffes, though we have rebelled against him: neither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in his laws, which he fet before us. Dan. ix. 10. 9,

Correct us, O Lord, but with judgment; not in this anger, left thou bring us to nothing. Jer. x. 24.

Enter not into judgment with thy fervants, O Lord for in thy fight fhall no man living be juftified. Pfal. cxliii. 2. Inflead of Venite, exultemus, the Hymn following fhall be faid or fung; one Verfe by the Prieft, another by the Clerk and People.

Righteous art thou, O Lord; and just are thy judg

ments. Pfal. cxix. 137.

Thou art juft, O Lord, in all that is brought upon us for thou baft done right, but we have done wickedly. Neh. ix. 33. Nevertheless, our feet were almoft gone our treadings had well nigh flipt. Pfal. Ixxiii. 2.

For why? we were grieved at the wicked: we did alfo fee the ungodly in fuch profperity. Ver. 3.

The people ftood up, and the rulers took counsel together against the Lord, and against his Anointed. Pfal.

They caft their heads together with one confent; and were confederate against bim. Pfal. lxxxiii. 5.

He heard the blafphemy of the multitude, and fear was on every fide: while they confpired together against him, to take away his life. Pfal. xxxi. 15.

They spoke against him with false tongues, and compassed him about with words of hatred and fought against him without a cause. Pfal. cix. 2.

Yea, his own familiar friends whom he tuted: they that eat of his bread, laid great wait for him. Pfal. xli. 9. They rewarded him evil for good: to the great difcomfort of his foul. Pfal. xxxv. 12.

They took their counsel together, faying, God hath forfaken him perfecute him, and take him, for there is none to deliver him. Pfal. Ixxi. 9.

The breath of our Noftrils, the Anointed of the Lord, was taken in their pits of whom we faid, Under bis fhadow we fball be fafe. Lam. iv. 20.

The Adverfary and the enemy entered into the gates of Jerufalem faying. When fhall he die, and his Name perish? Ver. 12. Pfal. xli. 5.

Let the fentence of guiltinefs proceed against him: and now that he lieth, let him rife up no more.

Falfe witneffes alfo did rife up against him; they laid to his charge things that he new not. Pfal. xxxv. 11.

For the fins of the people, and the iniquites of the priests: they fbed the blood of the just in the midst of Jerufalem. Lam. iv. 13.

O my foul, come not thou into their fecret; unto their affembly, mine honour, be not thou united for in their anger they flew a man. Gen. xlix. 6.

How is be numbered with the children of God: and bis lat is among the faints! Wifd. v. 5.

But, O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth; thou God, to whom vengeance belongeth: be favourable and gracious unto Sion. Pfal. xciv. 1. & li. 18.

Be merciful, O Lord, unto thy people, whom thou haft redeemed and lay not innocent blood to our charge. Deut. xxi. 8. O fhut not up our fouls with finners: nor our lives with the blood-thirsty. Pfal. xxvi. 9.

Deliver us from blood-guiltinefs, O God, thou that art the God of our falvation and our tongues fhal! fing of thy righteousness. Pfal. li. 14.

For thou art the God, that haft no pleasure in wicked. ness neither fhall any evil dwell with thee. Pfal. v. 4. Thou wilt destroy them that fpeak leafing the Lord abbors both the blood-thirsty and deceitful man. Ver. 6.

O how fuddenly do they confume: perih, and come to a fearful end! Pfal. lxxiii. 18.

Yea, even like as a dream when one awaketh: fo didst thou make their image to vanish out of the city. Ver. 19.

Great and marvellous are thy works, O Lord God Almighty juft and true are thy ways, O King of faints. Rev.

Inftead of the firft Collect at Morning Prayer, fhall these two which next follow, be used:

Moft mighty God, terrible in thy judgments, and wonderful in thy doings towards the children of men ; who in thy heavy displeasure didft. fuffer the life of our gracious Sovereign King Charles the First, to be, as this Day, taken away by the hands of cruel and bloody men : We thy finful creatures here affembled before thee, do, in the behalf of all the people of this land, humbly confefs, that they were the crying fins of this Nation which brought down this heavy judgment upon us, But, O gracious God, when thou makelt inquifition for blood, lay not the guilt of this innocent blood (the fhedding whereof nothing but the blood of thy Son can expiate) lay it not to the charge of the people of this land; nor let it ever be required of us, or our pofterity. Be merciful, O Lord, be merciful unto thy people, whom thou haft redeemed, and be not angry with us for ever: But pardon us for thy mercies fake, through the merits of thy Son Jefus Chrift our Lord. Amen.

Leffed Lord, in whofe fight the death of thy faints is precious; We magnify thy Name for thine abundant grace beftowed upon our martyred Sovereign; by which he was enabled fo chearfully to follow the fteps of his bleffed Mafter and Saviour, in a conftant meek fuffering of all barbarous indignities, and at laft refifting unto blood; and even then, according to the fame pattern, praying for his murderers. Let his memory, O Lord, be ever bleffed among us; that we may fallow the example of his courage and conftancy, his meeknefs and patience, and great charity,
