HYMN I.

Safety in God.

HOW are thy servants blest, O Lord,
How sure is their defence,
Eternal wisdom is their guide,
Their help omnipotence.

2. In foreign realms, and lands remote,
Supported by thy care,

Thro' burning climes they pass unhurt,
And breath in tainted air.

3. Thy mercy sweetens ev'ry soil,
Bids ev'ry region please,

The icy mountain tops it warms,
And smooths the raging seas.

4. In midst of dangers, fears and deaths, Thy goodness we'll adore,

And praise thee for thy mercies past,
And humbly hope for more.

5. Our life, while thou preserv'st that life, Thy sacrifice shall be;

And death, when death shall be our doom, Shall join our souls to thee.

HYMN II.

Gratitude to God.-PART 1.

WHEN all thy mercies, O my God,
My rising soul surveys;
Transported with the view, I'm lost,
In wonder, love, and praise.

2. O how shall words with equal warmth The gratitude declare ;

Which glows within my thankful heart,
But thou can'st read it there.

3. When worn with sickness, oft hast thou
With health renew'd my face;
And when with sin and sorrow prest,
Reviv'd my soul with grace.

4. Through every period of my life,
Thy goodness I'll pursue;
And after death, in distant worlds,
The glorious theme renew.

5. Through all eternity to thee
A grateful song I'll raise;
But Oh! eternity's too short,
To utter all thy praise.

HYMN III.

Gratitude to God.-PART II.

THY hand, O God, my life sustain'd,
And all my wants redress'd,
When in the silent womb I lay,
And hung upon the breast.

2. To all my weak complaints and cries, Thy mercy lent an ear.

Ere yet my feeble thoughts had learnt
To form themselves in prayer.

3. When in the slipp'ry paths of youth With heedless steps I ran,

Thine arm unseen convey'd me safe
And led me up to man,

4. When nature fails, and day and night, Divide thy works no more,

My ever grateful heart, O Lord,
Thy mercy shall adore.

HYMN IV.

Gratitude to God.-PART III.

UNNUMBER'D comforts to my soul,
Gods tender care bestow'd,
Before my infant heart conceiv'd
From whom those comforts flow'd.

2. Through hidden dangers; toils; and deaths
It gently clear'd my way,
And thro' the pleasing snares of vice,
More to be fear'd than they.

3. His bount'ous hand with worldly bliss,
Has made my cup run o'er :
My God, my kind, my faithful friend,
Thou blessest all my store.

4. Ten thousand thousand precious gifts
My daily thanks employ;
Nor is the least a cheerful heart,
That tastes those gifts with joy,

5. Through all eternity to thee
A grateful song I'll raise :
But, Oh! eternity's too short
To utter all thy praise.
