PSALM IX.

TO celebrate thy praise, O Lord,
I will my heart prepare;
To all the list'ning world, thy works,
Thy wondrous works declare.

2. The thoughts of them shall to my soul Exalted pleasures bring:

Hence to thy name, O thou Most High! Triumphant praise I'll sing.

3. Thou raisest from the gate of death,
Thou break'st oppression's rod:
When troubles rise, all help and aid
Proceed from thee, our God.

4. Let them, who know thy holy name, In thee alone confide;

Thy mercy ne'er forsook the man
Whose heart on Thee relied.

B

PSALM XV. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6:

LORD, who is he, that happy man,
Whom thou so well dost love;
That he may praise thee here below,
And dwell with thee above?

2. 'Tis he, whose ev'ry thought and deed
By rules of virtue moves;

Whose gen'rous tongue disdains to speak
The thing his heart disproves.

3. Who never did a slander forge
His neighbour's fame to wound,
Nor hearken to a false report
By malice whisper'd round.

4. Who to his plighted vows and trust
Hath ever firmly stood;

And though he promise to his loss,
Yet makes his promise good.

5. The man who by his steady course

Hath happiness ensur'd,

When earth's foundation shakes, shall stand By providence secur'd.

PSALM XVI. 7, 11,

MY soul shall ever bless the Lord,
Whose precepts give me light,
And private counsel still afford
In sorrows dismal night.

2. I strive each action to approve
To his all-seeing eye;

No danger shall my hopes remove,
Because he still is nigh.

3. Therefore my heart all grief defies,
My glory shall rejoice:

*

My flesh shall rest in hope to rise,
Wak'd by his pow'rful voice.

4. Thou, Lord, when I resign my breath,
My soul from hell + shall free;
Nor let thy holy one in death,

The least corruption see.

5. Thou shalt the paths of life display,
That to thy presence lead;

Where pleasures dwell without allay,
And joys that never fade.

* My Tongue.

+ The Grave,

PSALM XVIII, 1, 2, 25, 26.

NO change of times shall ever shock
My firm affection, Lord, to thee;
For thou hast always been my rock
A fortress and defence to me.

2. Thou my deliv'rer art, my God,
My trust is in thy mighty pow'r;
Thou art my shield from foes abroad,
At home my safeguard and my tow'r.

3. Thou suit'st, O Lord, thy righteous ways To various paths of human kind;

They who for mercy merit praise,
With thee shall wondrous mercy find.

4. Thou to the just shalt justice shew,
The pure thy purity shall see;
Such as perversely chuse to go,

Shall meet with due returns from thee.

PSALM XIX. 1, 4.

THE heav'ns declare thy glory Lord,
Which that alone can fill;
The firmament and stars express
Their great Creator's skill.

2. The dawn of each returning day
Fresh beams of knowledge brings;
And from the dark returns of night
Divine instruction springs.

3. Their pow'rful language to no realm Or region is confin'd;

'Tis nature's voice, and understood Alike by all mankind.

4. Their doctrine doth its sacred sense?
Through earth's extent display; n
Its bright contents the circling sun
Doth round the world conveyan
