the felf-fame Spirit, dividing to every Man jeverally as he will. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one Body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be Bond or Free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit, 1 Cor. xii. 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13. And at the 14th Chapter, at the 15th Verfe, he faith, I will pray with the Spirit, and with the Understanding also. I will fing with the Spirit, and with the Understanding alfo And St. John faith to the Churches, The Anointing which ye have received of him, abideth in you, and ye need not that any Man teach you; but as the fame Anointing teacheth you of all Things, and is Truth, eand is no Lie, and even as it hath taught you, y fhall abide in bim, 1 John ii. 27. So alfo faith the Lord Jefus, But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghoft, whom the Father will fend in my Name, he shall teach you all Things, and bring all Things to your Remembrance, whatfoever I have faid unto you, John xiv. 26. And again he faith, All be taught of God, John vi. 45. Ifaiah liv. 13. In the Acts of the Apofles are many Places, where Mention is made of the Holy Spirit's guiding, and fending the Difciples. In the Account we have of the Converfion of the Eunuch, who was a great Man under Candace, Queen of Ethiopia, it is faid, The Spirit faid unto Philip, go near, and join thyfelf to this Chariot, Acts viii. 29. And in the 39th Verle, The Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip. So is written, That while Peter thought on the Vifion, the Spirit faid unto him, behold three Men Jeek thee, Acts x. 19. And when he mentions it to the Brethren in Judea, he faith, The Spirit bade me go with them, Chap. xi. 12: In another Place it is written, As they miniftered to the Lord, and fafted, the Holy Ghost said, feparate me Barnabas and Paul, for the Work where

unto I have called them. So they being fent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed, Chap. xiii. 2, 4. St. Paul alfo fpeaketh thus; And now behold I go bound in the Spirit to Ferufalem, not knowing the Things that shall befall me there; fave that the Holy Ghost witneffeth in every City, Jaying, that Bonds and Afflictions abide me, Chap. xx. And it is written of him, that when he was at Corinth, Paul was preffed in Spirit, and teftified to the Jews, that Jefus was Chrift, Chap. xviii. 5. So when he, and Silas, and Timotheus, had gone through Phrygia, and the Region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghoft to preach the Word in Afia; after they were come to Myfia, they affay'd to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit Juffered them not, Chap. xvi. 6, 7. The fame Apoftle, to the Church of Corinth, faith, My Speech, and my Preaching, was not with inticing Words, of Man's Wifdom, but in the Demonstration of the Spirit, and of Power, 1 Cor. ii. 4. And to the Galatians he faith, I went up by Revelation, and communicated unto them the Gospel, Gal. ii. 2. Alfo it is written in the Scripture, in the Days of the firft Church, And there ftood up one of them, named Agabus, and fignified by the Spirit, that there should be a great Dearth through all the World, Acts xi. 28. So alfo is it written of the fame Prophet, that when Paul, and those with him, was come through Cæfarea to Jerufalem, he came to them, and took Paul's Girdle, and bound himself, and faid, Thus faith the Holy Ghoft, fo fhall the Jews at Ferufalem bind the Man that owneth this Girdle, Acts xxi. 11. When St. Paul was at Tyre alfo, certain Brethren, through the Spirit, faid unto Paul, that he should not go to Ferufalem: Intimating, that if he dit fo, he fhould fuffer by the Jews, Verte 4. Ananias alfo was moved by the Spirit, to go to Paul, when he was first convinced, in his Way to Da

mafcus, as it Is written, Ananias went his Way, and enter'd into the Houfe, and putting his Hands on him, faid, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jefus, that appeared unto thee in the Way as thou cameft, bath fent me, that thou mighteft receive thy Sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost, Acts ix. 17. Alfo the Scripture faith of Apollos, This Man was inftructed in the Way of the Lord, and being fervent in the Spirit, he spake, and taught diligently the Things of the Lord, Acts xviii. 25. So St. Paul, when he took his Leave of the Elders of the Church of Ephefus, faith, Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the Flock over which the Holy Ghoft hath made you Overseers, Acts xx. 28. When he was come to Jerufalem, and apprehended, and brought before Felix the Governor, and was ready to have been torn to Pieces of the People, and at last by the Soldiers brought into the Caftle, the Scripture faith, The Night following the Lord food by him, and faid, be of good Cheer, Paul, for as thou haft teftified of me in Jerufalem, fo must thou bear Witness alfo at Rome, Acts xxiii. 11. By all thele Scriptures I have proved plainly, that the Apoftles, and Prophets, and the Church of Difciples in their Days, were guided by the Spirit of God; but becaufe fome may be yet unconvinced, that the fame Spirit is to rule in the Church of GOD, I would prove, that all Worship not done in the Spirit of Chrift, is no more in God's Sight, than the Worfhip of Heathens; for as they worship. they know not what, fo do we, if the Spirit hath not declared the true GOD in our Hearts; neither (if we are void of the Knowledge of God, through the Holy Ghost,) are we a hit better than the Athenians, who dedicated their Altar to the Unknown GOD. When our Saviour talked with the Woman of Samaria, he found this Fault of the Samaritans, that they wordipped they knew not what; and to unde

eive her, who thought GOD chofe fome Places more than other for his Worship, he taught her the true Worship was inward in the Holy Ghoft, faying, The true Worshippers shall worship the Father, in Spirit and Truth, John. iv. 23. And St. Paul faith the fame to the Philippians, We are the Circumcifion, which worship God in the Spirit, Phil. iii. 3. Here is it very plain, what Manner of Worship pleafeth the Father. Now that this is the Worship wherein only will God be worshipped to the End of the World, is plain from our Saviour's Promife, ftill to be with his Church, where two or three are gathered together in his Name; as it is written, Where two or three are gathered together in my Name, there am I in the Midft of them, Mat. xviii. 20. And again, Lo! I am always with you, even unto the End of the World, Mat. xxviii. 20. Neither can it be proved, that any are faved, but fuch as are led by the Holy Ghost, and every Church alfo where Jefus is not the Governor, cannot be of GOD, however they may have the Form of Godliness. As many as are led by the Spirit of God, are the Sons of God, Rom. viii. 14.

4. And lastly, He is the Witness of the Children of God, whereby they know that they are born of him, and are affured of eternal Life: baving been fealed thereunto by him. GOD faith in Ifaian, Behold, I have given him for a Witnefs to the People, Ifaiah lv. 4. St. Paul, fpeaking of Chrift's dying for us, and how we are forgiven, thro' him, faith, Whereof the Holy Ghoft is a Witness to us, Heb. x. 15. Alfo in another Place, fpeaking of thofe who heard the Gofpel of Fefus Chrift, faith, God also bearing them Witnefs, both with Signs and Wonders, and the Gifts of the Holy Gloft, Heb. ii. 4. So St. Peter, when he fpake of the Converfion of the Gentiles, faith, And God which knoweth the Hearts, bare them Witness, giving unto them the Holy Ghoft, even as

he did unto us, Acts xv. 8. Again, St. Paul faith, For ye have not received the Spirit of Bondage again to fear, but ye have received the Spirit of Adoption, whereby we cry Abba, Father: The Spirit itfelf beareth witness with our Spirit, that we are the Children of God, Rom. viii. 15, 16. And St. John faith, It is the Spirit that beareth Witness, because the Spirit is Truth: For there are three that bar Record in Heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghoft, and these three are one: And there are three that bear Witness in Earth, the Spirit, and the Water, and the Blood, and these three agree in one. If we receive the Witness of Men, the Witness of God is greater; for this is the Witness of God, which he hath teftified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God, hath the Witness in himself; he that believeth not God, hath made him a Liar, becaule he believeth not the Record that God gave of his Son. And this is the Record that God hath given to us eternal Life, and this Life is in his Son. He that bath the Son bath Life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not Life. Thefe Things have I written unto you that believe on the Name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal Life, 1 John v. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13. Here every one that readeth may fee plain, that nothing less than the inward Witnels or Teftimony thould fatisfy us that we are Believers. Yea, the Apoftle fpeaks clearly, faying that all (however they may fay they believe) if they don't believe the Witnefs or Record of GOD, they make GOD a Liar. GOD faith All (that is, all in the New Covenant) fhall know me, from the leaft to the greatest, Jer. xxxi. 34. And again, He that believeth on me bath everlasting Life: And again, He that believeth on the Son of God hath the Witness in bimfelf, 1 John v. 10. If any there. fore can dare to fay they believe, and yet don't know the Lord, neither have eternal Life, neither
