yea, I will sing praises unto thy name, O thou Most High!

3. Because mine enemies are driven back they fall and perish at thy pre

sence.

4. For thou hast maintained my righteous cause; thou sittest upon thy throne, judging righteously.

5. Thou hast rebuked the heathen, and destroyed the ungodly: thou hast put out their name for ever.

6. Desolations have consumed the enemy for ever; their cities thou hast destroyed, their memory is perished with them.

7. But the LORD endureth for ever; he hath prepared his throne for judgement. 8. And he judgeth the world in righteousness: he administereth true judgement unto the people.

9. The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed: even a refuge in time of trouble.

10. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee; for thou, LORD, hast never failed those who seek thee.

11. O praise the LORD who dwelleth in Zion: celebrate his deeds among the people.

12. For he who maketh inquisition for blood

blood remembereth them; he forgetteth not the complaint of the afflicted.

13. Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider the trouble which I suffer from those who hate me: O raise me from the gates of death.

14. That I may rehearse all thy praises within the gate of the city of Zion; and rejoice in being saved by thee.

15. The nations are sunk down into the pit which they made: in the net which they hid, is their own foot entangled.

16. The LORD is known by the judgement which he executeth: the wicked is ensnared in the work of his own hands.

17. The wicked shall hasten to the grave, and all the people who forget God. 18. For the poor shall not be forgotten for ever: nor the expectation of the afflicted be disappointed for ever.

19. Arise, O LORD, and let not man prevail: let the nations be judged by thee. 20. Put them in fear, O LORD; that the nations may know that they are but

men.

PSALM XI.

N the LORD I place my trust: why then say ye to me, Escape as a bird unto the mountains?

2. For lo, the ungodly have bent the bow, and have fitted their arrow to the string, to shoot in secret at the upright of heart.

3. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

4. The LORD is in his holy temple: the LORD's throne is in heaven.

5. His eyes behold, and his eyelids try, the children of men.

6. The LORD approveth the righteous; but the ungodly and the violent his soul abhorreth.

7. Upon the ungodly he shall rain flakes of fire and sulphur: storm and tempest shall be the portion of their cup.

8. For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance regardeth the upright.

PSALM XII.

DELIVER me, O LORD, for the merciful man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.

2. They speak falsehood every one to his neighbour: they do but flatter with their lips, and dissemble in their double. heart.

3. The LORD will cut off every deceit

ful lip, and the tongue that speaketh boastful things.

4. Even those who say, We are masters of our tongues; our lips are our own; who is lord over us?

5. Now, because of the oppression of the afflicted, and the deep-sighing of the miserable;

6. I will arise, saith the LORD, and will place them in safety from those who would ensnare them.

7. The words of the LORD are pure words; like silver, refined from the mixture of earth, and purified seven times.

8. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD; thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

9. When the wicked walk about on every side, the vilest of men are exalted.

PSALM XIII.

How long wilt thou totally forget me, O LORD? how long wilt thou hide

thy face from me?

2. How long shall I be uneasy in mind, and grieved in my heart? how long shall mine enemy be exalted above me?

3. Behold and hear me, O LORD my God; enlighten mine eyes, lest I sleep in death: 4. Lest

4. Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed; and those who trouble me, rejoice when I am removed.

5. But my trust is in thy mercy; and my heart is joyful in thy salvation.

6. I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me, I will praise the name of the LORD Most High.

PSALM XIV.

THE fool* saith in his heart, There is no God.

2. They are corrupt, and practise abominations: there is not one who doeth good, not even one.

3. The LORD looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, to see if there were any that did understand, seeking God.

4. But they are all gone out of the way, they are altogether become abominable; there is not one who doeth good,

not even one.

5. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues have they deceived: the poison of asps is under their lips.
