An Evening Thanksgiving. Worthy art Thou, O LORD of heaven and earth, to receive glory and honour and thanksgiving, for Thou hast created all things, and hast given us all things richly to enjoy. For breathing into our nostrils the breath of life, and endowing us with reason and understanding, We bless Thee, Good LORD. For our nourishment, our preservation, our safety from harm, We bless Thee, Good LORD. For home and health, for dear parents and friends, for daily bread and decent attire, We bless Thee, Good LORD. For the beautiful earth, for the pure air, for the glad sunshine, We bless Thee, Good LORD. For Thy watching over us night and day, for Thy filling our hearts with food and gladness, for healthful activity and for quiet sleep, We bless Thee, Good LORD. For Thy SON sent to save us; for the lessons of Thy Word, for the helps of Thy SPIRIT, for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory, We bless Thee, Good LORD. For Thy pitying us as a father pitieth his children; for Thy patience with our sins and negligences; for Thy calling us and forgiving us again and again, We bless Thee, Good LORD. For our dedication to Thee in infancy, for our opportunities of instruction, for our power to labour, for our privilege to pray; for whatever knowledge we have attained, for whatever sin we have escaped, for whatever good we have done; for all we are and hope to be, here and hereafter, We bless Thee, Good LORD. R. The LORD preserve our goings out and our comings in: A. From this time forth for evermore. That hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly: But his delight is in the law of the LORD: And he shall be like a tree that is planted by the waterside : That will bring forth his fruit in due season: His leaf also shall not wither: And look, whatsoever he doeth, it shall prosper. The basis of these Selections is the Prayer-Book Psalter, occasionally retouched from the Bible Version and the Vulgate. |
