529. "Come to the Ark."-Gen. 7: 1.
1 COME to the ark, come to the ark;
To Jesus come away;

The pestilence walks forth by night,
The arrow flies by day.

2 Come to the ark: the waters rise,
The seas their billows rear;
While darkness gathers o'er the skies,
Behold a refuge near!

3 Come to the ark, all, all that weep
Beneath the sense of sin:
Without, deep calleth unto deep,
But all is peace within.

[blocks in formation]

2 Walk in the light! and thou shalt own Thy darkness passed away,

Because that light on thee hath shone
In which is perfect day.

3 Walk in the light! and ev'n the tomb
No fearful shade shall wear:
Glory shall chase away its gloom,
For Christ hath conquered there!

4 Walk in the light! and thine shall be
A path, though thorny, bright;
For God, by grace, shall dwell in thee,
And God himself is light!

1 HAPPY the home, when God is there, And love fills every breast;

Where one their wish, and one their prayer,

And one their heavenly rest.

2 Happy the home where Jesus' name
Is sweet to every ear;

Where children early lisp his fame,
And parents hold him dear.

3 Happy the home where prayer is heard, And praise is wont to rise;

Where parents love the sacred word,
And live but for the skies.

4 Lord! let us in our homes agree,
This blessed peace to gain;
Unite our hearts in love to thee,
And love to all will reign.

DOXOLOGY.

LET God the Father, and the Son,
And Spirit, be adored,

Where there are works to make him

known,

Or saints to love the Lord!

4 From thence he 'll quickly comc-
His chariot will not stay-
And bear our spirits home

To realms of endless day:

There shall we see his lovely face,
And ever be in his embrace.

4 While all the powers on high
Their swelling chorus raise,
Let earth and man reply,
And echo back thy praise:
Thy glory own,
God ever blest,
First, last, and best, And God alone!

1 THE Lord Jehovah reigns;

His throne is built on high;

The garments he assumes
Are light and majesty:

His glories shine with beams so bright,

97. "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty." No mortal eye can bear the sight.

Rev. 15: 3, 4.

21. Communion with Christ in Worship.

1 FAR from my thoughts, vain world, begone!

Let my religious hours alone: Fain would mine eyes my Saviour see; I wait a visit, Lord, from thee. 2 My heart grows warm with holy fire, And kindles with a pure desire: Come, my dear Jesus! from above, And feed my soul with heavenly love. 3 Blest Saviour! what delicious fare, How sweet thine entertainments are! Never did angels taste, above, Redeeming grace and dying love. 4 Hail, great Immanuel, all divine! In thee thy Father's glories shine: Thou brightest, sweetest, fairest One That eyes have seen, or angels known! 45.*

"Thou art my God."-Psalm 63.

1 GREAT God, indulge my humble claim; Thou art my hope, my joy, my rest; The glories that compose thy name Stand all engaged to make me blest. 2 Thou great and good, thou just and wise, Thou art my Father and my God; And I am thine, by sacred tiesThy son, thy servant bought with blood. 3 With heart and eyes, and lifted hands, For thee I long, to thee I look ; As travelers, in thirsty lands,

Pant for the cooling water brock. 4 With early feet I love t' appear

Among thy saints, and seek thy face; Oft have I seen thy glory there,

And felt the power of sovereign grace. 5 I'll lift my hands, I'll raise my voice,

While I have breath to pray or praise; This work shall make my heart rejoice, And cheer the remnant of my days.

[blocks in formation]

1 SUN of my soul! thou Saviour dear,
It is not night if thou be near:
Oh, may no earth-born cloud arise
To hide thee from thy servant's eyes!
2 When soft the dews of kindly sleep
My wearied eyelids gently steep,

Be my last thought,-how sweet to rest
For ever on my Saviour's breast!
3 Abide with me from morn till evc,
For without thee I can not live;
Abide with me when night is nigh,
For without thee I dare not die.
4 Be near to bless me when I wake,
Ere through the world my way I take;
Abide with me till in thy love

I lose myself in heaven above.

71. “I will both lay me down in peace and sleep."

1 THUS far the Lord has led me on;

Thus far his power prolongs my days; And every evening shall make known Some fresh memorial of his grace. 2 Much of my time has run to waste, And I, perhaps, am near my home; But he forgives my follies past: He gives me strength for days to come. 3 I lay my body down to sleep;

Peace is the pillow for my head;
While well-appointed angels keep
Their watchful stations round my bed.

4 Faith in thy name forbids my fear;
Oh, may thy presence ne'er depart!
And in the morning make me hear
The love and kindness of thy heart.
5 Thus, when the night of death shall come,
My flesh shall rest beneath the ground,
And wait thy voice to rouse my tomb,
With sweet salvation in the sound.

*When sung to ARNON, commence the fifth stanza with the second part of the tune.

163.So great is His mercy."-Psalm 103.

1 THE Lord! how wondrous are his ways! How firm his truth! how large his grace!

He takes his mercy for his throne,
And thence he makes his glories known.

2 Not half so high his power hath spread
The starry heavens above our head,
As his rich love exceeds our praise,
Exceeds the highest hopes we raise.

3 Not half so far has nature placed
The rising morning from the west,
As his forgiving grace removes
The daily guilt of those he loves.
4 How slowly doth his wrath arise!
On swifter wings salvation flies:
Or, if he lets his anger burn,
How soon his frowns to pity turn!

5 His everlasting love is sure

To all his saints, and shall endure; From age to age his truth shall reign, Nor children's children hope in vain.

961."While I live will I praise the Lord."

Psalm 146.

1 GOD of my life! through all my days My grateful powers shall sound thy praise;

The song shall wake with opening light, And warble to the silent night.

2 When anxious care would break my rest,
And grief would tear my throbbing breast,
Thy tuneful praises raised on high,
Shall check the murmur and the sigh.

3 When death o'er nature shall prevail,
And all my powers of language fail,
Joy thro' my swimming eyes shall break,
And mean the thanks I can not speak.

4 But, oh! when that last conflict's o'er,
And I am chained to flesh no more,
With what glad accents shall I risc
To join the music of the skies!

1151. Love of God seen in the Seasons.

1 OUR Helper, God! we bless thy name,
The same thy power, thy grace the same;
The tokens of thy loving care
Open and crown and close the year.

2 Amid ten thousand snares we stand,
Supported by thy guardian hand;
And see, when we survey our ways,
Ten thousand monuments of praise.
3 Thus far thine arm hath led us on;
Thus far we make thy mercy known;
And, while we tread this desert land,
New mercies shall new songs demand.
4 Our grateful souls on Jordan's shore
Shall raise one sacred pillar more;
Then bear, in thy bright courts above,
Inscriptions of immortal love.
