36. Queft. Who is the Mediator of the Covenant of Grace?

Anfw. The only Mediator of the Covenant of Grace is the Lord Jefus Chrift, who being the

Anfw. Chrift the Son of God became Man, by taking to himself a true Body, and a reasonable Soul being conceived by the Power of the Holy Ghost, in the Womb of the Virgin Mary, of her Subftance, and born of her *, yet without Sin ". 38. Queft, feeing he ever liveth to make interceffion for them.

38. Queft. Why was it requifite that the Mediator fhould be God?

Anfw. It was requifite that the Mediator fhould be God, that he might fuftain and keep the humane Nature from finking under the infinite Wrath of God, and the Power of Death; give Worth and Efficacy to his Sufferings, Obedience, and Interceffion ; and fo fatisfy God's Juftice, procure his Favour,

with a feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without fin. Heb. 7.26. For fuch an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless,undefiled, separate from finners, and made higher than the heavens.

38.2 Acts 2.24. Whom God hath raifed up, having loofed the pains of death: because it was not poffible that he should be holden of it. v. 25. For David fpeaketh concerning him, I forefaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I fhould not be moved. Rom. 1. 4. And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holinefs, by the refurrection from the dead. Compared with Rom. 4. 25. Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our juftification. Heb. 9. 14. How much more fhall the blood of Chrift, who through the eternal Spirit, offered himself without spot to God, purge your confcience from dead works to serve the living God? a Acts 20. 28. 39. Queft. Why was it requifite that the Mediator Should be Man?

Anfw. It was requifite that the Mediator should be Man, that he might advance our Nature 1, perform Obedience to the Law i, fuffer and make Interceffion for us in our Nature, have a Fellow

made us accepted in the beloved. Mat. 3. 17. And lo, a voice from heaven, faying, This is my beloved Son, in whom alone I am well pleased.

d Tit. 2. 13. Looking for that bleffed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God, and our Saviour Jefus Chrift: v. 14. Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Gal. 4. 6. And becaufe ye are fons, God hath fent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

f Luke 1. 68, Bleffed be the Lord God of Ifrael, for he hath vifited and redeemed his people, v.69. And hath raised up an horn of falvation for us, in the house of his fervant David. v. 71. That we fhould be faved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us. v. 74. That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hands of our enemies, might ferve him without fear.

Heb. s. 8. Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things, which he fuffered: v. 9. And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal falvation unto all them that obey him. Heb. 9. 11.

But Chrift being come an high priest of good things to come,by a greater and more perfe&t tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to fay, not of this building; v. 12. Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entred in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. v. 13. For if the blood of bulls, and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer, fprinkling the unclean, fan&tifieth to the purifying of the fiefh; v. 14. How much more fhall the blood of Chrift, who through the eternal Spirit, offered himself without spot to God, purge your confcience from dead works to ferve the living God? v. 15. And for this cause he is the mediator of the new teftament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the tranfgreffions that were under the firft teftament, they which are called might receive the promife of eternal inheritance.

40. Queft. Why was it requifite that the Mediator fhould be God and Man in One Perfon?

Anfw. It was requifite that the Mediator, who was to reconcile God and Man, fhould himself be both God and Man, and this in One Perfon; that the proper Works of each Nature might be accepted of God for us, and relied on by us, as the Works of the whole Perfon P.

41. Quest. Why was our Mediator called Jefus ? Anfu. Our Mediator was called Jefus, because he faveth his People from their Sins 9.
