Jesse's rod, the root and offspring of David. Let us search the scriptures for light that we stumble not, and also for love, that we love one another:-for love is the fulfilling of the law. Without love our hearts are yet in the state of nature, and we do not know God: therofore help us to search the scriptures for in them is life. ON REVELATIONS, XXII. Behold I come quickly ye servants of mine, Behold I come quickly, now hear what I say: Behold I come quickly and blessed is he, To you I'll come quickly, your ways now amend. And now my dear brethren: while we wait for Him Behold He'll come quickly, may our hearts now rejoice ON READING DANIEL. 1 There was a king in ancient days He caused an image to be made, Then to his great men he did say, Whatever time that you shall hear,- Or in the furnace be thrown in. There were three men whose names we know, Shaderach, Meshach, Abednego, Nor were they careful to obey, The king's command, but still said nay. Our God is able for to keep The king all in a rage did say, My mandates now must be obeyed, So those three men were bound we see, Because they would not bend their knee. The king arose all in a haste, For sure he had no time to waste, The counsel answered true, O! king! 'Twas then he made a new decree, It was not long, before he said, These were the visions of my head, The watchers cried aloud to him, Then Daniel was astonished one hour, And they shall drive thee from all men, And after that seven times shall pass, And while these words were in his mouth, Saying, O! king it is for you, Your body must be wet with dew. And at the end of certain days, His heart was fill'd with prayer and praise. And blest and glorified God's name. And now I pray remember me, And shun those Judgments that appear, ON REVELATIONS, I, 7. Behold he cometh with clouds, and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him; and all kingdoms of the earth shall wail because of him, even so-Amen. John the Revelator was a precious Saint, one that God chose, to commit to his care or reveal things that should shortly come to pass, he was sent to the seven Churches in Asia. His salutation commences thus: Grace be unto you, and peace from him which is, and which was, and which is to come, and from the seven spirits which are before his throne. Urto him that has loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood. And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and forever, Amen. Then he declareth to his brethren,-" Behold he cometh with clouds: in like manner as ye saw him ascend, so shall ye see him descend." He was received up to Heaven in a cloud, and his disciples saw him go, and while they mourned, and gazed they were comforted, for in like manner as ye see him go, so will he return; he once came to redeem lost man and now he will come to glorify. How little our thoughts are occupied on this delightful subject, how little we do realize that he will come. The Jews believed he would come, but did not know him when he did come; but there will be no deception when he comes again, for "Behold he cometh with clouds, and every eye shall see him." His Saints which are scattered over broad creation, will see him and rejoice at his appearance, and those in their graves will come forth to meet him in the air. And not only the Saints, but those that have pierced him, and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Why will they wail? Because they pierced him by rejection; for he came to save them which were lost, he has wept over sinners and shed his blood for them, and sweat as it were great drops of blood. He has sent his Prophets and Apostles and Ambassadors, but they would not hear them, his angels too accompanied by the Holy Spirit, but they would have none of these things, and no wonder they will wail at his second coming. Our thoughts do not dwell sufficiently upon the coming of Christ, we are too much like those which say my Lord delayeth his coming and begin to beat their fellow servants. We are commanded to watch, for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of man cometh. He that hath an ear let him hear what the spirit saith unto the churches, he saith, Behold I come quickly, hold that fast which thou hast. He hath long stood at the door and knocked and but few have received him into their hearts! "Then shall the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Be patient, therefore brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. And again: Be ye also patient, stablish your hearts for the coming of the Lord. |
