he tries to worry even if he cannot destroy. He is very successful in both. Why is it that we are not more on the lookout for his satanic windings? It is because we are so slothful in regard to our eternal welfare, and think it will be easier and better with us by and by, but we may be assured he will stick by us to the loss of everything; therefore let us arm ourselves, and when he comes with his temptations, be able to say, "Get thee behind me Satan." My respects to your family, and believe as ever, Your Friend,

ABIGAIL HOUSE.

Lenox,

MY DEAR BROTHER AND SISTER IN THE FAITH:

I received your communication with pleasure, and it was like cold water to a thirsty soul. Never shall I forget the kind instruction I have received from you, nothing is more cheering than to learn that you are walking in the truth, and that your care toward the church aboundeth. You no doubt feel the responsibility resting upon you as you should, having such a charge committed to earthen vessels, and I hope you will ever be faithful, and prove yourselves good soldiers for Jesus, who is your captain, king, and head.

And may you dear sister, as an help-mate assist in all your calling, teaching the younger women to be sober, chaste, and lovers of their own husbands; help them by your example to adorn themselves in modest apparel, not in plaiting the hair nor wearing of gold but of a meek and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is of great price. Women anciently did much for the cause of God; and why should we not now? The Prophet said woe to the women that art at ease in Zion, and where are we discharged? The Apostle tells us that they are all one in Christ Jesus, male and female, bond and free, Jew and Gentile.

Christ talked with the women, and his holy spirit comforta us now:-he appeared to them while at the sepulcher, he will manifest himself to us at his feet or at the cross, where he deigns

to meet with his Saints. How beautifully he made himself known to Mary, while she stood weeping at the place where they had laid him? and because she could not find him, she desired him-the gardener as she supposed-to tell her where they had laid him. He said unto her, Mary! as she turned herself, she knew him, and said Master, where dwellest thou? If we will search after him he will be found of us, and we must look for him where he is, not where he is not.

Let men and women be workers together with God, and he will assist in all our hopeful undertakings. He is more ready to give good gifts unto us, than earthly parents are to give to O what a kind Father! Why should we be so loth to call upon him for every good gift?

their children.

Did we realize that we were poor, and blind, and naked, and that he stood ready to give us durable riches, and had eye salve for our eyes, and would clothe us with his righteousness, when we truly desired it, then would our tongues be unloosed, and we should sing glory to God in the highest, peace on earth, and good will to man, for he is worthy of all praise.

How hard to be denied the privilege of conversing with you, instead of writing, but I must submit by hoping that you will be sent like Timothy of old, to the refreshing of the Saints.

Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it, when God's love enkindles a flame in our bosoms, we say to our cares as Solomon in his songs," I charge you by the roes and Hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please." Just so it is with us now, we ought to watch our temporial concerns, that the spirit is not choaked, or disturbed, so that when we arise to open the door he may re found, and not say, have you seen him whom my soul loveth? Draw us with the cords of thy love, and we will run after thee. How kindly does our Saviour bear with our infirmities, notwith. standing he woos and beseeches with us, to be reconciled to him, for he has taught us in his word, that there is no other name given under heaven, whereby we can be saved-then let us forsake every idol, and to him bow. I hope I shall hear irom you ere long, that my joy may be full, for what greater consolation than for the children of God to mingle their spirits and voices in harmonious strains of praise to him who hath washed us in his own precious blood.

We then have no time to lose, but for everything give thanks whether we eat or drink, all should be done to the glory of God, and while we are permitted to stay upon earth, let us consider that we are but strangers and pilgrims, and this can be undertood by the humblest minds.

The word describes the church as being driven into the wil derness, and does she yet remain there? Or is she coming up cart of the wilderness, leaning upon the breast of her beloved? Come what will, let us be resolved to serve the Lord with meel nees and fear. knowing that it is his good pleasure to give as the kingdom through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ

Yours in much Love,

ABIGAN Houta.

Who are these arrayed in white
Brighter than the noon-day Sun?
Foremost of the sons of light,
Nearest the eternal throne

These are they that love the cross,
Sufferers in his righteous cause,

Nobly for their Master stood,

Followers of the dying God.

COMPOSED BY JOHN ROGERS.

Give ear my children to my word, Whom God hath dearly bought, Lay up his laws within your heart, And print them in your thoughts.

I leave you here a little book,
For you to look upon,

That you may see your Father's face,
When he is dead and gone.

Who for the sake of heavenly things,
While he did here remain,
Gave over all his golden years,

To prison and to pain.

When I, among my iron bands,
Enclosed in the dark,

Not many days before my death,
Composed this little work.

And for example to you, youth,
To whom I wish all good:

I send you here God's perfect truth,
And seal it with my blood.

To you my heirs of earthly things,
Which I do leave behind,

That you may read and understand,
And keep it in your mind.

That as you have been heirs of that, Which one shall wear away, Commit no sin in any wise,

Keep his ten commandments!

Abhor that arrant whore of Rome,
And all her blasphemies,

And drink not of her cursed cup,

Obey not her decrees.

Give honor to your mother dear,
Remember well her pain,
And compensate her in her age,
With the like love again.

Be always ready for her help,
And let her not decay,
Remember your father all,

Who should have been our stay.

Give of your portion to the poor,
As riches doth arise,

And from the needy naked soul,
Turn not away your eyes.

For he that doth hear the cry,
Of those that stand in need,
Shall cry himself and not be heard,
When he doth to speed.

If God hath given you increase,
And blessed well your store,
Remember you are but in trust,
And should relieve the poor.

Beware of foul and filthy talk,

Let such things have no place, Keep clean your vessels in the Lord, That he may you embrace.
